Mughal-e-Azam: Reliving the epic

Mughal-e-Azam: Reliving the epic
(NSI News Source Info) Thursday, August 7, 2008: (Mumbai): This week marks 48 years since the release of K Asif's magnum opus Mughal-e-Azam. Almost five decades later the magic of the Salim-Anarkali legend and its grandeur live on. Released on Aug 5, 1960, it was the first movie ever to be produced in Mumbai at a cost of Rs 10.5 million. When K Asif spent Rs 1 million on the Sheesh Mahal to picturise the classic song Jab pyaar kiya to darna kya, many thought his financier Shapoorji Pallonji would go bankrupt. And, according to Dilip Kumar, who played Salim, it took seven years to complete the film that was premiered at Mumbai's Maratha Mandir theatre.Released in 150 theatres all over the country simultaneously, which itself was a record in those days, it became an instant hit and collected a record revenue which remained unsurpassed till G P Sippy's Sholay broke it 15 years later.Asif had planned to make the movie way back in 1944 after he read a play on the 16th century love affair between a prince and a commoner during the reign of Emperor Akbar and he had gone ahead with it, casting Chandramohan, Nargis and Sapru for the roles of Akbar, Anarkali and Salim, respectively. But the perfectionist that he was, he suspended the movie and restarted it in 1953 with Prithviraj Kapoor, Madhubala, Dilip Kumar, Durga Khote and Ajit in the cast.Initially, Dilip Kumar was reluctant to do a historical movie, but he gave in when Shapoorji Pallonji insisted that he play Salim. Asif sent Dilip Kumar to London to try out the wig he wore in the movie.Mughal-e-Azam was seven years in the making all right, but when it was released its awesome battle scenes, splendour of the Mughal court, ensemble dances picturised on Madhubala and hundreds of junior artistes took the audience's breath away, for the like of this had never been portrayed on the Indian screen before with such finesse, dazzle and perfection before. It was a signature movie of K Asif and the only magnum opus he could complete. After the success of Mughal-e-Azam, he had started Love and God with Guru Dutt and Nimmi in the leads. But it was shelved after Guru Dutt's death.Later Asif revived it with Sanjeev Kumar as the male lead. But it was not to be as he died during its making. Later, in 1986, producer-director K C Bokadia released the incomplete movie as a tribute to the late filmmaker.Asif had planned to make Mughal-e-Azam in three languages - Hindi, Tamil and English. While the Hindi version became a super hit, the Tamil-dubbed version came a cropper at the box-office and he subsequently dropped the idea of dubbing it in English in the voices of British actors. The making of Mughal-e-Azam was a gigantic affair, but Asif carried it out patiently and painstakingly.Tailors were brought from Delhi to stitch the costumes, specialists from Surat were hired to do the embroidery, goldsmiths from Hyderabad designed jewellery, craftsmen from Kolhapur worked on the crowns, ironsmiths from Rajasthan made the weaponry and shoemakers from Agra produced the royal footwear. For the battle scenes, 2,000 cameras, 4,000 horses and 8,000 soldiers were used. Most of the soldiers were taken on loan from the Jaipur Regiment of the Indian Army.Although the movie was made partly in colour, the full colour version was released in 2004. It was the first Indian movie to be released in Pakistan after Indian movies were banned there following the 1965 war.Earlier, K Asif had directed Phool (1945) and produced Hulchul (1951).

Singh Is Kinng - unadulterated fun

Singh Is Kinng - unadulterated fun
(NSI News Source Info) August 6, 2008: Akshay Kumar, the Bollywood actor with the Midas touch, is on a mission. The actor, 41, who began his career as a bloodthirsty action hero, wishes to spread cheer in a world filled with negativity. And helping him in his quest, is his next release Singh Is Kinng (SIK).
Kumar plays the role of Happy Singh, a simpleton with a heart of gold, who transforms a bunch of gangsters into noble beings. Kumar says he has reached a point in his life where he abhors violence and prefers to give his fans a light-hearted fare.
"They will get their money's worth. It is unadulterated entertainment and even the action sequences in SIK are hilarious yet slick," he adds. Kumar, one of Bollywood's highest paid actors, who delivered four hits and one box-office disaster in the last two years, confesses that his role in SIK was an easy one to pull off.
Comedy of errors
"This was one of the few roles which did not require any preparation. The role just flowed because it's a reflection of me and my own positive philosophy," says Kumar. The movie tells the story of the comedy of errors that occurs when a simple Sikh is sent to Australia to rescue a fellow Sikh.
It may have been smooth sailing for the lead actor, but the filmmakers had to tackle a few bumps on the way.
As far as controversies go, the film ran into a mother of all feuds, when the Sikhs, a religious community in North India, took offence to the movie's title and were concerned that they were being portrayed in a negative light.
But the crisis was averted, thanks to a host of damage control measures undertaken by the actor and producer Vipul Shah. A special screening was set up for the leaders of Sikh groups to reassure them.
Though the movie was given the go-ahead by the community leaders, a few scenes were altered or deleted.
"An additional dialogue where my character seeks forgiveness if he has committed any mistake has been incorporated. The changes will benefit our film," says Kumar.
But despite such friendly overtures, The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) on Monday requested another screening.
Apart from this, the title too has come under scrutiny. Was Kumar indirectly proclaiming himself the king of Bollywood?
"We were not intending to many any personal statement of such a kind. I got hold of the title in a most unusual and funny manner. While I was driving back from Jaipur, a truck driven by an easy-going Sikh had this slogan emblazoned on his vehicle back. I loved the ring of it and immediately called up Vipul Shah [the producer] and suggested it," says Kumar.
A winning combination
If Kumar is Bollywood's golden boy, then Katrina Kaif is the quintessential lucky charm. The pair, with their combustible on-screen chemistry, delivered some of the biggest hits of last year such as Namastey London and Welcome.
Kaif, who was recently voted the sexiest woman in the world by FHM, sticks to what she does best - dialling up the glam quotient as an eye-candy with a flair for comedy.
"Most of the Bollywood films are male-dominated and the heroines are expected to look good and appear in songs. But in this movie, apart from looking good I needed to tune my comic timing too," she says.
But what made it easier, says the actress, was the comfort level she enjoyed with the lead actor.
Greater ease
"After having worked together for several films, we are able to communicate with greater ease. And, it's a pleasure working with an actor who brings in energy into a film with his sheer presence," says Kaif.
The admiration is not one-sided. Kumar waxed lyrical about his on-screen lover's determination to learn Hindi. For all those who came in late, Kaif was panned initially for her heavily anglicised Hindi.
"Katrina has improved over the last couple of years. She is hard-working and is eager to work on her shortcomings," says Kumar.
But quiz Kaif about her earnest approach to work and she promptly pulls out the diplomacy card.
"I think I am lucky to be a part of some highly successful films. All I try to do, is choose roles that make sense to me. Besides that, the actors and the banner play a deciding role," says Kaif.
If the words from an actress, who is fast developing a reputation for being associated with wholesome entertainers, is anything to go by, then SIK is worth heading to the theatres for tomorrow.
Did you know?
The title song of Singh Is Kinng features American hip-hop sensation Snoop Dogg and the lead actor Akshay Kumar rates his experience of working with the R&B star as top notch.
Katrina Kaif made a lightning visit to Dubai and bought a dazzling orange gown from Missoni, the high-end Italian label, for Singh in Kinng.
The action sequences, which were tailored by Australian stunt director Danny Baldwin, will see Kumar execute some gravity-defying stunts like jumping from one skyscraper to the next and tackling as many as eight beefy wrestlers.
Know your characters
Happy Singh (Akshay Kumar)As his name suggests, Happy Singh is a do-gooder whose noble intentions end up having disastrous consequences.
Sonia (Katrina Kaif)Chirpy and fun-loving, Sonia is a law student who loses her cool when she is confronted by a bunch of gangsters.
Lakhan Singh aka Lucky (Sonu Sood)By a twist of fate, Lakhan becomes an underworld don. Dodging bullets and running his own organised crime dynasty in Australia has become his way of life.
Julie (Neha Dhupia)A gangster's moll, Julie harbours ambitions of making it big in Bollywood. Her grand plan is to get one of her boyfriend to force a director to cast her.

Saif Ali Khan wants to make films for Kareena

Saif Ali Khan wants to make films for Kareena
(NSI News Source Info) August 6, 2008: Saif Ali Khan is back to his producing ways after a brief stint with Being Cyrus and this time he is back with Homi Adjani again.
Saif warns, “But not right away. We’ll be doing it next year. I’ll produce a film and it’s not really a period film.”
Saif explains, “It would be a period film. But it won’t feel like one. By that I mean it’d be very contemporary in terms of actions and emotions. But in order to make those actions and emotions credible the plot will be set in the past. Part of my character might have some thugi traits. But I don’t play a thug, as defined in the history books.”
The Chote Nawab makes it clear that he is gonna rope in his ladylove Kareena Kapoor for his future productions.
Saif adds, “I’d love to make films for Kareena and my sister Soha. But I don’t have to star in all my productions. See, initially the whole idea was to give myself a chance to produce films and do the roles I wasn’t being offered.”
“Now when I’m in my first three production being directed by Imtiaz Ali, Sriram Raghavan and Homi Adjania I don’t mind playing just the producer in future.”
Well let’s see if Saifoo’s other movies with Bebo make it big on the box office or are big duds like Tashan.

Sanjay Dutt prefers Imran Khan to Shahid Kapoor

Sanjay Dutt prefers Imran Khan to Shahid Kapoor
(NSI News Source Info) August 6, 2008: Shahid Kapoor is turning heads after the box office success of his movie Jab We Met, but he has failed to turn the head of Munnabhai of Bollywood, Sanjay Dutt as he has lost out on a lucrative offer of working with Dutt to Imran Khan.
Apparently Ashtavinayak wanted to have Shahid in their next flick Kidnap, but took Imran Khan on suggestion of Dutt, as the later did not find Shahid suitable for the role.
An insider reveals, “Well both Sanjay and Shahid didn’t get along well during their last film Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! Shahid didn’t interact with him much and Sanjay thought that the young actor has an attitude problem. This irked Sanjay being a senior.”
A close friend of Shahid says, “Poor Shahid was in awe of Sanju and was too shy to be on back slapping terms with him.”
Imran Khan will be sporting a more muscular look for the movie as the producers have asked him to put on some weight.

Pooja Bedi joins the blog bandwagon

Pooja Bedi joins the blog bandwagon
(NSI News Source Info) Tuesday, August 5, 2008: (New Delhi): After Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, and Ajay Devgan, actress-anchor Pooja Bedi has made her foray into the big bad world of blogging. Bedi is back home after a month long shoot from South Africa for Khatron Ke Khiladi. The lady said in her blog, "Internet is one of the best things that has happened to us, And I have decided to make the best use of it. I was already very active on Facebook when one day it dawned to me that here s another way where not only can I express myself but also can connect to you guys more. So here I am."Pooja, who has been infamous for her vocal and direct approach, intends to share her experiences, thoughts, and opinions and reveal her real side to her fans via the blog. "This blog is my way of saying there's a lot more to me than just a sum of all the parts people tend to gossip about. I am what I am and through this blog, you will get to know the real me," said Pooja. The actress, who shared screen space with Aamir Khan in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, also wrote about how different people have different perceptions about a person, based on what they hear or read about them. She shared the story of the five blind men and the elephant with the readers. "For those who skipped this one in school, it s about how each one of them bases his impressions on the portion of its body he comes into contact with. The one who gets hold of the tail declares that the elephant is like a rope, the one who grabs its leg swears that it is like a tree trunk and so on. Similarly people often end up making up their minds about people they have never met - especially celebrities," said Pooja. The blog has already started getting responses from her fans and they can't wait for her to share her experience about shooting with Akshay Kumar and more.

Brad and Angelina's record breaking photos

Brad and Angelina's record breaking photos
News Source Info - NSI Aug 5, 2008: The first photos of the newborn twins of celebrity couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, have been sold for a reported $US14 million ($A15 million), which would make them the most expensive baby snaps in history.
The couple sold the rights to the photos to Getty Images, which then sold them to magazines. Getty said that the proceeds would go "entirely to charity".
Intimate photos of Hollywood's most glamorous couple and their three-week-old twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, appear in a 19-page spread in the latest issues of People magazine in the United States, and Hello! in Britain.
Who Weekly, the Australian version of People, is published on Fridays but its Australian owner, Pacific Magazines put out a cryptic statement yesterday saying publication of another of its magazines, New Idea, had been delayed from yesterday to today. "It's a first for us not to be out on Monday. But we'd like assure readers that there's no problem … We'd like to advise readers that it'll be worth the wait. We have a few surprises in store."
Prices of celebrity photographs are sometimes hyped but even allowing for that, the price reported by Associated Press in the US for the newborn twins is more than three times the previous record figure as quoted in the business magazine Forbes last year.
That figure — $US4.1 million — was also for "Brangelina" and their firstborn child, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, and also appeared in People magazine, in 2006.
Pictures of Nicole Kidman's baby, Sunday Rose, are said to be worth $5 million.

The Most Expensive Celebrity Baby Photos

The Most Expensive Celebrity Baby Photos
News Source Info - NSI August 4, 2008: Chalk up another No. 1 ranking for Brangelina, arguably the most famous celebrity couple on planet Earth.
An exclusive first glimpse of twins Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon, the highly anticipated offspring of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, tops our latest rundown of the most expensive celebrity baby photos. According to published reports, People magazine, which is owned by Time-Warner, along with London-based Hello! magazine coughed up between $11 million and $15 million for exclusive first shots. (In the U.S. and Canada, People holds the rights, while Hello! has international rights to the pics.)
This comes just two years after the tabloid-staple couple peddled pictures of their pouty newborn--and first biological child--Shiloh Nouvel. Rather than pocket the loot, the humanitarian duo donated the funds to African charity. The reported sum: a then-record $4.1 million--and that doesn't include the $3.5 million that Hello! reportedly shelled out for the British rights to the pictorial.
The second-most lucrative photo sale to date came in March this year, when boldface pair Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony sold exclusive first shots of twins Max and Emme to People magazine. In return for the lavish spread, the glossy allegedly coughed up $6 million.
The newborn shots are not only must-sees for the masses but also big business for the magazines that publish them. As celebrity weeklies are forced to compete with a growing number of entertainment shows and tabloid-style blogs to chronicle the minutia of celebrity life, the price tags associated with these types of private moments have skyrocketed. And entrepreneurial celebrities stepping in to maintain control of--and profit from--their exposure only fuel things further.
In Forbes' list, we surveyed top-priced photo sales in the U.S. over the last decade. Our estimates are not adjusted for inflation, and we didn't look at photos that sold for less than $500,000. Since the celebrity weeklies are notoriously tight-lipped about such sales, we were forced to rely on published reports and only considered photo sales for which information was available.
Such photographs are no doubt adorable, but are they really worth their hefty price tags?
Absolutely, says OK! magazine Deputy Editor Rob Shuter. First off, they sell magazines--job No. 1 for publishers. A heavily hyped exclusive typically sells an extra 300,000 to 500,000 copies. Some do even more: The buzz-worthy Shiloh cover sold 800,000 more than usual.
"But anybody that looks at it as just a one-week phenomenon has missed the real point," Shuter explains. "It's branding. It's publicity. It's marketing." For a magazine, an exclusive set of A-list baby pics generates a tremendous amount of buzz, from blog write-ups to talk show segments to newspaper headlines.
Star magazine Editor-in-Chief Candace Trunzo agrees, adding that you're giving your readers what they want: a window into the real lives of celebrities.
Of course, with stars dictating the terms, it's often a heavily primped version. But getting in on the action offers more to a celebrity than just a preapproved shot. Rather, working directly with a publication to capture the big-ticket event is one way to ward off the paparazzi and control the media maelstrom--not to mention making big money along the way.
Not every star is willing to play, however. Hordes of photographers found themselves tripping over each other trying to score the first shots of Sarah Jessica Parker's son James Wilke in 2002. By walking out of the hospital and posing for the masses, she turned what some predicted would fetch $1 million as an exclusive into a discounted also-ran.
Will the latest crop of pregnant celebs, including Jessica Alba and Nicole Kidman, take their cue from the Sex and the City star?
The increasingly competitive stargazing industry is hoping not, and Trunzo says the audience that supports it wouldn't be pleased either.
"Celebrities put out one face when they're on the big or small screen," she says. "But the face that our readers want to see is the one behind closed doors."

Anne Hathaway's Nude Photos Expected in Web Leak

Anne Hathaway's Nude Photos Expected in Web Leak
Monday, August 04, 2008 - Fox News: How long will it be until Anne Hathaway’s naked photos surface on the net?
Not too long, according to Gawker.com. “We'll give it another two weeks or so.”
Hathaway, 25, has been the subject of non-stop tabloid coverage following her recent breakup with scam artist Raffaelo Follieri of Italy. Follieri, 30, was arrested in June for fraud.
But it appears Hathaway’s real problems could be just around the corner.
According to the Enquirer, Follieri had reportedly taken several nude photos of Hathaway, Gawker writes. The piece de resistance of which is a prized and “sizzling” photo of her in black fishnet stockings, a garter belt and bustier that completely exposes her top portion. Follieri is believed to have paid a famous photographer to take that picture.
Hathaway’s brother tried to recover the pictures from a storage unit, only to find out that the FBI had beaten him to it the day before, according to Gawker.
The photographer is believed to have copies and it is questionable whether Follieri’s friends do as well.

Nicolette Sheridan is partly of Indian Punjabi descent.

Edie's world
News Source Info - NSI; August 04, 2008: She is meant to be Wisteria Lane's prime vixen. Yet many viewers of Desperate Housewives also call Edie their favourite. Nicolette Sheridan explains why...
What reactions did you receive when we were left thinking that Edie was dead?
It was great. I kept being approached by strangers in the street saying, "Does Edie live or die?" They were extremely upset about it. And what I heard a lot was, "If Edie dies, I'm not watching the show any more." So I thought, "Yesss! This is good."
It must be a giggle playing the vamp?
I love the shock value. Edie's the most fabulous, audacious character on TV. But I also like that she is a person; she's multilayered and breakable. And it's a challenge, when you play a bad girl, to find ways to make her likeable.
She does have a habit of falling in love with the other girls' men…
It's a very small town. I love her. She's just misunderstood.
Do you share any traits with her?
I'm much more reserved, but I get to live things out through her. Edie has a fabulous wardrobe, but, I mean, have you seen those hot pants? It's horrifying if I haven't been running for a week. I think, "No, I'll march into the wardrobe trailer and find some long pants."
You're engaged to be married to Michael "The Voice" Bolton - have you got a date yet?
We havent decided where we're doing it yet. The date will come after we decide where. Michael's been touring and I've been working, so it's hard to eke out some time.
What does Michael think about your part on the show?
He is highly amused.
Tell us why do you think people always assume there are huge cat fights on the set?
Because they are stupid. Because people like to focus on the negative rather than the positive which I think is a problem, a big problem everywhere and then we can bring it down to Desperate Housewives. People like to create animosity and ugliness because somehow it is more entertaining.
Do you relate with any of the characters of the housewives?
Sure, I have always been an extremely neat person, everything has its place, so there is a little bit of Bree in me and I love to cook and bake. I guess Susan's sensitivity and Lynette's mothering - that's a strong part of my nature.
Did you know?
In 2004 Nicolette Sheridan topped Blackwell's list of the worst dressed celeb women.
She is partly of Indian Punjabi descent, was born in England, and considers her stepfather, Kojak actor Telly Savalas, as her real father.
She has been in trouble with the American Federal Communications Commission for appearing in a sexually suggestive advertisment.

Till now it’s either been with family or friends, never just the two of us.” The couple had a blast and a well-deserved one. “I’ve had a very hectic schedule past few months. Aziz too has been busy with his film. We were waiting to take this break,” she says.
On the work front, Jassi’s role in Betiyaan... continues to be as negative as always.
“I can’t expect this role to turn positive,” she says, “But yes, I’d like to take up some positive role in another show.” Jassi in recent times has been seen doing many reality shows. She was first seen in Mr & Ms TV some time ago.
Currently she’s doing Ek Se Badhkar Ek and will soon get busy with Saas Vs Bahu on SaharaOne. “The one show I’ve always wanted to do is Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, but that’s not come my way yet,” she says. What does she have to say about the drama that goes on in reality shows most of which are said to be staged?
“I don’t know how much of that is true. But as far as I am concerned, I have never been part of any natak.” Jassi, who’s known for her dancing skills, recently shot with Saroj Khan for NDTV Imagine’s Aaja Nachle, where she was given the Natraj trophy by the ace choreographer. Naturally, it was a big moment for the actress.
“To dance in front of Sarojji was a big thing for me. Besides, I was dancing to her choreography. And I got a ten on ten! I was so excited!”

Preity: Ash, Madhuri are awesome together
News Source Info - NSI; Monday, August 4, 2008: (Mumbai): Preity Zinta, who is accompanying the Bachchans for their Unforgettable tour, says she gets along with everyone in Bollywood's first family, but shares a special bonding with Jaya Bachchan. The Unforgettable tour that kicked off last month has Amitabh, his son Abhishek, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai performing with other Bollywood stars. Although Jaya is not performing, she is accompanying the family on the tour."I knew I'd be comfortable with Amitji, Ash and Abhishek. I've always gotten along with them. I did the film The Last Lear with Amitji. And we had a blast," Preity said. "But my favourite is Jaya aunty. We bonded earlier during Kal Ho Naa Ho. At that that we had gotten really close. Now it's like old times again. Jaya Aunty is my favourite member of the Bachchan family. We get along so well," she added.Apparently, the two ladies take off on long walks and shopping sprees at every venue."Just the two of us. We love it!" said Preity.Commenting upon her relationship with Aishwarya and Madhuri Dixit, she said, "Come on, it's not hard to get along with Aishwarya and Madhuri, who joined us in the US. They're two of the sweetest chicks I've worked with. And they're as comfortable in their space as I am in mine. No rivalry, no looking anxiously over our shoulders."We're all cool doing our own thing. And I'm sure I'd be the same when Shilpa Shetty joins us in London. I knew I'd be completely comfortable in present company. Otherwise, I'd never have agreed to come along."Her favourite act, Preity says generously, is Madhuri and Aishwarya's Dola re song from Devdas."They're awesome, breathtaking together. Absolutely paisa vasool! We all are, actually, ha ha... Riteish Deshmukh, who I've never worked with, is such a revelation on stage. He dances so well. And he's such a cool guy."And Vishal and Shekhar are rock stars. In fact, the whole experience so far has been just amazing. I can't wait to get along with the rest of the show," said the actress who was also part of Shah Rukh Khan's world tour Temptations. However, the tour wasn't without hiccups. After Amitabh, Preity too lost her luggage on arrival in Los Angeles just hours before she was to go on stage."Can you imagine my plight on de-boarding from the flight? So it's not just Amitji whose world-tour experiences come with a baggage," Preity puns perkily."I had a 'wail' of a time when I lost my baggage. To my horror the lost suitcase contained my precious golden gown. There was no way I could go on stage without wearing that gown. So I decided to get a replacement garment," said the actress. Then began Preity's hunt in the shopping areas of LA for a designer who would stitch the lost gown."I finally found this place run by a guy called Mike. At first he was horrified. 'How can I make a duplicate dress without a pattern, and that too in just hours?' But you know me. I badgered, threatened, pleaded. It was done. I got my golden gown just in time," said Preity"All my Indian clothes for the concerts have been done by Neeta Lulla and Ruchika Pandey. I even get into an Anarkali dress and do a full on Indian number. So much for my Western image, ha!"

'Pineapple Express': High Hopes for James Franco

'Pineapple Express': High Hopes for James Franco
Aug 3, 2008: James Franco is reading Gertrude Stein. It's homework for a course he's taking at UCLA — English 173B: American Fiction 1900-1945 — as he continues his long, between-pictures slog toward finally finishing his bachelor's degree. ''I'm graduating this June,'' announces the 30-year-old actor-turned-lit major, plunking down a thick paperback of the Parisian expat's prose onto a tabletop at a busy Westwood coffee shop. ''But I'm going on to graduate school. For creative writing. What I really want to do is write.''
And Gertrude Stein probably wanted to be in Spider-Man. But a rose is a rose is a rose, as somebody once wrote, and for now Franco is stuck being a movie star. In fact, he's here on this early March morning — ''the first day of the spring quarter,'' he cheerily notes — to discuss a new film, Pineapple Express, in which he and Seth Rogen costar as a couple of hapless stoners whose buzz gets harshed when one of them witnesses a cop committing a murder. ''The whole idea of the movie comes from Brad Pitt's stoner character in True Romance,'' explains producer Judd Apatow, referring to that star's glassy-eyed walk-on in the 1993 Tony Scott crime drama. ''I thought it would be funny to make a movie in which you follow that character out of his apartment and watch him get chased by bad guys.''
It's Franco's first leading role in a major studio comedy — also a step up for director David Gordon Green (Snow Angels, Undertow) — as well as a huge attention-grabbing stretch for an actor best known for playing Peter Parker's playboy pal. Franco dives so deeply into the character, burying his chiseled features under a mop of greasy hair and blinking into the camera in a heavy-lidded daze, some fans might have trouble recognizing him. ''It really is amazing, isn't it?'' marvels Rogen. ''You see him in the Spider-Man movies wearing $3,000 suits and he's a total heartthrob. But we put him in a grungy wig and some baggy clothes and he's a whole different guy. It's almost like he isn't even handsome in this movie.''

SHARAD MALHOTRA

SHARAD MALHOTRA
(NSI News Source Info) August 2, 2008: A HEALTHY WAR WAS ON BETWEEN ME AND SMRITI (IRANI)....Sharad Malhotra has the unconventional handsome looks, which can make any girl go weak in the knees, but that’s not all there is to this good looking actor.
Today, he is one of the most popular faces on the small screen, who has just been a part of the popular reality show Yeh Hai Jalwa. No wonder then that rumours of him dating his co-star (Divyanka Tripathi) are igniting again. I meet him on the sets of his show Dulhann… and thoroughly enjoy the conversation over a hot cup of coffee with both Sharad and Divyanka.
As much as I’d like to say that she’s there keeping him company, it’s not entirely true. Divyanka gives us both company in between her shots and being the thoughtful and friendly person she is, she doesn’t give us a difficult time at all. Agreeably Sharad has already earned the well-deserved adulation for being a fine actor. But after his stint on the dance reality show Yeh Hai Jalwa, he has also certified that hard work and dedication can indeed lead you to the path of success.
Even though Sharad was a non-dancer, he managed to reach quite far in the show before his ouster. “Well, look at the good side of it,” he says. “I learnt how to dance and came pretty far,” he smiles while Divyanka looks on. So what was his first tryst with reality TV like? “I think it was simply great because it was much more than reality. When I say reality I mean that it’s harsh and pleasant at the same time.
I feel we get to see both the aspects of a so-called reality show. There are times when you’re upset with the way you are treated on the show. It could be the fans treating you in a certain way; it could be the judges or even the anchor. It could hurt at times especially when one doesn’t get the credit even though one is working one’s ass off for it. Only gradually did I understand that all this criticism was for the betterment of the team because we are in a competition at the end of the day and we have to strive to win,” he says convincingly.
There had been a certain kind of cold war between Smriti Irani, the anchor of Yeh Hai Jalwa and him. How did he deal with that? With a brief pause, Sharad reveals, “I’ll tell you what; Smriti kept on telling me for quite a few weeks that I needed to improve and that was certainly discouraging because we were practicing for hours. Predominantly, people like us who are doing daily soaps work from nine in the morning to eleven in the night and then practice throughout the night, which is absolutely killing. But the week before I was eliminated, I realized that Smriti said all this for my good. She, being a senior in the industry, knows a lot more than I do and has experienced much more than I have.
She knows how things work and that one must go all out to get what one wants. I also felt that her expectations from me were very high because both of us have been a part of the number one show. I feel really proud to say this that she has been a part of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which was number one at one point and I am part of Banoo Main Teri Dulhann, which is the number one at present. And we both have tasted our bit of success. So I presume there was a very healthy war which was on between me and Smriti; I wouldn’t say a cold war even though initially I thought it was so. And I even told her that I felt so, but later on I understood it was for my betterment and I left the show by thanking her with a hug for whatever she enlightened us with.
”We usually see a lot of rivalry between contestants in reality shows. Bearing in mind that this was his first experience in a reality show, did he face any of this? “I think we hardly had the time to sit down and gossip because we were there for just one day. There was no one in particular that I didn’t get along with. Towards the end, Hussain was very sweet to me and so was Shweta Tiwari. Rakhi Sawant surprised me because she was very warm and caring as opposed to the image she carries.
All of them including Ronit (Roy), Rohit (Roy) and Varun (Badola) were very nice. But the one person who I found extremely genuine was Sakshi Tanwar. She has a gorgeous smile and a lovely heart. She was one of the few people there who I knew would definitely say the truth and not be a fake.”
There has always been a huge question mark on the authenticity of reality shows. Does he believe in them now? “Honestly, this was my first and last reality show. Not because it was rigged or something but purely because there is too much mental pressure. You are always expected to perform the best. I have personally never felt that these shows are rigged. But there were times when they told me I had less votes and that’s when I used to feel that this cannot happen, basically because I know my fans love me a lot. The only time I would believe them was when someone like Ronit Roy would get higher votes than me as I know he is more popular. But somebody else getting higher votes was very difficult for me to digest because I know how much my fans would vote for me.” Maybe that’s why Sharad feels he deserved to stay on the show longer than the others.
“Yes, I do feel so,” he adds. “Personally, I believed I was getting there and my team was improving. We were just beginning to pump hard and put in our best but we were eliminated. I got out in the ninth round out of the thirteen rounds, which means we were almost there. However, it was a wonderful experience and we really had a blast.”So who does he hold responsible for this ouster?
“I don’t think I would blame anyone for this. I know the expectations were very high but after performing so well in the jugalbandi round, it was very shocking to hear that I was out based on those votes. My entire team performed very well that day; they lit up a fire on stage and for a change, Smriti loved it too, so I was quite taken aback when they told us we were eliminated. It was something I couldn’t digest. And I still can’t figure out the reason for that. I guess they had their reasons and it’s just a game.”
Throughout his stint in Yeh Hai Jalwa, Divyanka was his strongest support. She stood by him at every step; something that we’d expect from a wife or a girlfriend. The rumour mills have started doing the rounds again about their relationship. So what is the correct status? Sharad shrugs off the hearsay. “I am quite used to these rumours by now and am sick and tired of them also.
The point is I have never denied the fact that we get along really well and I have known her for five years, which is quite a long time. We have worked together for hours for the past one-and-a-half years so one is bound to get along well with the other. But as far as the boyfriend-girlfriend quotient goes, I think we are too busy with our careers to be involved. Frankly, right now, we both believe in a very healthy friendship. And about her constant support for me during …Jalwa, I feel it was very sweet of her and now I know that she is one person I can always bank upon. There were other people from my show who came to support me but her support was definitely there right through,” he says, looking at her. I tell him that just a few days back, they were spotted together at a shopping mall, getting rather cozy with one another. Sharad doesn’t deny the incident.
“We happened to pack up early and I don’t think there is anything wrong in going out with probably one of your best friends. My parents are very broad-minded and chilled out as long as I know my limits, which I do. They have that much of faith in me that I would not let them down and there is nothing wrong in a girl and a guy hanging out and having fun.”A while back, Sharad had told Showtime that he wouldn’t date anyone from the industry. But now, he seems to have changed his stance a bit. “Now, with a few exceptions around, I wouldn’t mind,” he laughs. Then, he quickly adds, “If you’re thinking about Divyanka, then please forget it. I do have a lot of other friends in this industry who I am pretty friendly with. But even today I would prefer someone who’s not from the industry.”
He’s been single for a long time now. Hasn’t he ever fallen in love? Pat comes the reply, “I don’t have the time at the moment. I am about to be in love with Divya (Divyanka’s on-screen character) but off-screen, I don’t have the time because I am too busy with my work.”But surely there must be some women in his sphere of work that he finds hot?
“Divyanka is definitely gorgeous and the second one would be Niki Aneja. I used to really like Niki at one point of time. She was very cute.” Who’s the girl he’d like to ask out? “Well, Niki is a mom now so I guess I am left only with Divyanka, which is very sad for me but it’s okay,” he says. Steering back to his career, in an age of women-dominated soaps, doesn’t he think he is getting lost by being just a support factor and not the main protagonist?
“I wouldn’t mind being the support factor if the main protagonist is so very good,” he says pointing out to Divyanka. “I think she has done a wonderful job and has carried the show really well. I didn’t expect her to do so well; she has improved a lot with time. And I have no regrets at all being a part of such a great show with such a great protagonist. There is no disappointment and I am also very lucky that I have been able to play three different shades of characters in the show. Very few actors actually get to do that.”
It’s often been noticed that in television, it’s much easier for a girl to get a break because most of the serials are women-oriented. The guys generally don’t get their due. But Sharad isn’t bothered about that.
“I cannot talk about anybody else but I have got my due. I have got much more than I expected. I walked into the industry when I had nothing at all and now I have people who love me. It feels great to have people crazy after you. So I think it’s fabulous in spite of being a women-dominated industry. The daily shows are ruled by women and it’s absolutely fine because they are watched by the housewives and women staying at home. And the shows have to be made for them.”
Like in films, there is a lot of exploitation in the television industry as well. Has he ever experienced that? “Definitely, there is a lot of exploitation when you’re new. I can vouch for that because it happened with me and my co-actor Divyanka. We were asked to work for hours at a stretch and were paid peanuts. It was crazy absolutely. But now we have changed a lot thanks to the people who have exploited us. We have learnt and grown a lot with time so it is quite hard to take us for a ride now. I think most of the new people who enter the industry get exploited. It’s not the industry’s fault; it’s the people in the industry who do that.”
Most actors on television feel exhausted after a point in time. Has he reached that stage as yet? “Exhaustion?” he asks looking rather surprised and then adds in the same breath, “I think I have passed the stage of exhaustion by now and I am quite used to the working hours. It’s all good.”
Does he really believe being a part of soaps satisfies one’s creative instincts? Or does he want more? “Creativity actually totally differs from person to person. A couple of people on our show believe in being very creative, which at times, is not welcome by the other party because it’s a daily show. And it doesn’t satisfy our creative instincts as much as we want it to. The reason could be the time factor and at times it can be very irritating and frustrating as you want to give in so much. It just doesn’t satisfy me because I can’t do as much as I want. There have been times when the producer calls me and tells me that I don’t need to improvise but I am the kind of actor who can’t just do lines, so for me it gets difficult at times.”
For now, the picture seems rosy for Sharad but he’s already planning his next moves. “I’d like to do something that is really creative; something that really makes me think and something that has to do only with acting. I used to be a sportsman but I had to quit that and now I can’t think of anything other than acting. I was thinking of getting into cinematography or direction but I don’t know if that will work out. Basically, at the end of the day, I just want to entertain people. So let’s see how it goes.” The ride has been smooth so far, so Sharad has little to worry about.

KAMYA RETURNS TO HER HUSBAND

KAMYA RETURNS TO HER HUSBAND
(NSI News Source Info) August 2, 2008: THE DIVORCE HAS BEEN CALLED OFF....In this world of glamour and sizzle, nothing is permanent; neither fights nor relationships. Even marriages that are supposed to last seven lifetimes, can’t survive even one. Still, Kamya Punjabi seems to be in the mood of giving her marriage another chance.
Kamya who had a supposedly tumultuous marriage to Bunty Negi is now reportedly in love with him for the second time. Even though Kamya and Bunty seemed like the perfect match for each other as they had a long courtship before they tied the knot, their destinies had something else in store for them. Cracks in their relationship started showing very early into the marriage and soon their wedded bliss turned into misery.
After innumerable fights they amicably parted ways. Just a few months back Kamya had revealed to Showtime about how turbulent her marriage actually was. “I have gone through a very bad time. My marriage…I don’t know who to blame, but it was bad. At times, I would be troubled at home and I was not allowed to leave.
It was constant stress; physically I was worn out and the mental stress was also catching up.”
Trapped in misery, she finally decided to end the ordeal when she separated from Bunty. “I tried my best to make it work; I put everything into it,” she said. “He was younger to me and I feel he was too immature and lacked a general level of understanding.
There were insecurities in his mind due to my working. Maybe I was not able to give him time and attention. I don’t know what to exactly pinpoint at. I know I tried my best, but it was a nightmare. Even today, I wish him a lot of love and happiness in life.” Just when the couple filed for divorce, Kamya confessed her feelings for another man. She had no qualms in admitting to her strong attraction towards her married co-actor Nimay Bali. “Life has been very unkind to me, as far as love is concerned,” said Kamya. “After my separation from Bunty, it was my bad luck that I happened to fall in love with a married man.
I feel it is very unfortunate but very natural at the same time. Is it my fault that I happened to love a man who was married? What would you like me do? Should I kill myself for it? There is one thing I’d like to clear out though. Please do not call it an extra-marital affair. My husband and I had separated, and I was single.”Even though Kamya was absolutely in love with Nimay, that relationship couldn’t stand the test of time either.
Bali went back home to his wife to save his marriage and severed all contacts with Kamya. Indeed a lot has transpired between Kamya and her estranged husband Bunty since then. Both of them went all out in talking about their failed marriage and there was even another man in Kamya’s life soon after. That’s why the news of their coming together again came much as a surprise. The reason for their patch-up after so much happened is still not clear. But sources close to the couple say that despite staying separate for almost a year, they were always friends. They stayed in touch despite their differences.
When we got in touch with Kamya over her rumoured patch-up with Bunty, she was very forthcoming about her current relationship status. “I don’t really want to talk about my personal life but I would just like to make it clear once and for all that I am back with my husband now. Even though we were just separated and had filed for a divorce, we were always there for each other.
The divorce has been called off and I am very happy with him now. We have both matured with time and we love each other very much. I guess whatever happened in my life happened for a reason. I would not like to dwell much in the past because it’s gone and done with,” she maintained. Well Kamya, we always get another chance to make things right, don’t we?

Jolie, Pitt named best dressed couple

Jolie, Pitt named best dressed couple
Aug. 2, 2008 -- Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been named 2008's Best Dressed Couple.
The pair topped fashion bible Vanity Fair's annual poll for the second year in a row, and beat off stiff competition from David and Victoria Beckham and Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore.
Using the tagline "It's all in the family", the magazine praised Angelina for the way she dressed while pregnant and noted Brad's numerous flawless red-carpet appearances.
Michelle Obama, the wife of the American Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, came top of the women's poll, with the magazine jokingly referring to her as "our commander-in-sheath". Michelle became a fashion icon in June when there was a run on a $148 Donna Ricci dress after she was seen wearing it.
Former model and French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Kate Middleton - the girlfriend of Britain's Prince William - Sarah Jessica Parker, Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton and Evelyn Lauder were also featured.
Soccer star David did make the men's list along with, 'James Bond' actor Daniel Craig, rapper Kanye West and fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.
Meanwhile, People magazine has secured the rights to publish the first pictures of Angelina and Brad's newborn twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline.
The publication is rumoured to have paid between $10 and $15 million for the photographs. The couple are planning to donate the money to charity.

SANIA SNATCHES SHAHID FROM VIDYA

SANIA SNATCHES SHAHID FROM VIDYA!!
(NSI News Source Info) August 2, 2008: The close friendship between Vidya Balan, the classical Indian beauty of bollywood, and Shahid Kapur seems to have cooled off and now the young actor hardly speaks with Vidya.
Sources say that all this happened after Sania Mirza came into the life of Shahid Kapur and they were frequently seen at the various hot spots of the town. Apparently, Sania Mirza was upset with the talks of Vidya-Shahid’s so called ‘good friendship’ and told Shahid Kapur to keep off Vidya Balan. As a result, Shahid has not only cut off all connection with his ‘Kismat Konnection’ lady but also stopped talking to him.
The latest example of Shahid Kapur’s cold behavior came when he was in Delhi to attend the premiere of his film ‘Kismat Konnection.’ Though Vidya and Shahid were seated in the same car, they hardly spoke to each other after saying a customary hi. The insiders say that most of the time they were looking outside widow in different directions instead of talking to each other.
The tension was building up between them was also clear to the perceptive eyes when they were shooting for television show ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar.’ Those present on the sets say that they only did whatever was said by the shooting crew members and kept their distance from each other, as if they did not know each other.
The buzz doing the rounds in the industry is that recently Shahid became very close to Sania Mirza and there was something serious on the minds of both. Even Shahid Kapur’s father Pankaj Kapur is very fond of the tennis sensation and has no objection to their relationship going serious.
Recently, Shahid Kpaur had even arranged a special screening of his latest film ‘Kismat Konnection’ for Sania Mirza, as she was to leave for her tennis tournament to the US. Shahid Kapur’s parents Pankaj Kapoor and Supriya were also present on the occasion and seen enjoying Sania Mirza’s company.
However, Viday Balan is upset with Shahid Kapur as it was she, who had comforted him when Kareena had ditched him for Saif Ali Khan and nobody was around. Vidya and Shahid had been shooting for Aziz Mirza’s film in Canada and he was far away from his parents or friends.
It was during that time that Shahid and Vidya came closer and their common friends like Rahila started teasing them that they were looking perfect for each other. Even after the shooting was over, Shahid continued to hang out with this common group of friends. But now he has stopped going out with them and prefers to avoid them.Hmm….hmm…..unlucky Vidya…. or lucky Sania…who knows!!

BIPS REFUSES TO SEDUCE RANBIR!!

BIPS REFUSES TO SEDUCE RANBIR!!
(NSI News Source Info) August 2, 2008: Bipasha Basu, the sultry bong babe of bollywood, has refused to enact a seduction sequence for Yash Raj Films’ upcoming venture Bachna Ae Haseeno, as she had not been told about this scene while signing the film.
The scene required Bipasha Basu to seduce Ranbir Kapoor in the same fashion as was enacted by Anne Bancroft in ‘The Graduate’ while seducing Dustin Hoffman. This Yash Raj film is loosely based on Mike Nichols directed ‘The Graduate’, so the similarity was bound to be there, but Bipasha was adamant on not giving the required shot and finally the scene had to be cancelled.
The insiders say that Bipasha Basu is playing the character of a bindas girl Radhika in the film who can go to any length to fulfill her passions and this particular sequence was introduced by director Siddharth Anand to make the character look more convincing, but the leading lady had other opinion on the sequence and refused to relent.
Initially, director Sidharth Anand was very upset with Bipasha’s refusal to enact the scene, as Bips had never been shy of giving such sequences in her previous films. For instance, in Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Jism’, Bips had played the proverbial seductress and the whole film became a runway hit at the box office due to her bold scenes in the film.
However, later director calmed down when he was made to understand by the production house that they wanted ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ to be a family film and so it was better not to have intimate scenes between Bipasha and Ranbir. Otherwise, the family audiences would stay away from the film and that would affect its box office performance.
‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ is a romantic comedy being directed by Sidharth Anand of ‘Ta Ra Rum Pum’ fame. The film boasts of big names like Bipasha, Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Minissha Lamba. Ranbir Kapoor plays the part of Raj, who is a conqueror of hearts while Deepika and Minissha play his love interest in the film.
Yash Raj has very high hopes from ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ to salvage its reputation as a premier production house of bollywood, as its other big films like ‘Tashan’ Starring Saif, Kareena and Akshay and ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic’ starring Saif-Rani, which were released recently, had bombed at the box office.Let’s hope this time audience does not say ‘bachna’ from Yash Raj film!!

SANJU IS HAJI MASTAN!!

SANJU IS HAJI MASTAN!!
(NSI News Source Info) August 2, 2008: Sanjay Dutt, who portrayed the negative characters in bollywood flicks like Khalnayak with élan, is all set to enact the role of underworld don Haji Mastan in Milan Luthria’s upcoming venture ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai.’
Sanjay has been chosen for the role of Haji Mastan as the gangster had not only ruled the streets of Mumbai in the 1970s but also had influence in bollywood and produced some films.
The film will portray the condition of Mumbai at the time when organized crime and violence had been introduced by the gangsters and ordinary people were terrified to even walk in the city during nights.Besides Sanjay Dutt, who will essay the character of Haji Mastan, two other actors are yet to be finalized for the role of Karim Lala and Varadrajan.
It was these three gangsters—Haji Mastan, Karim Lala and Varadrajan—who were instrumental in the seventies in bringing the organized mafia to the metropolis. And so to present a complete picture, these two characters also become important.
While Haji Mastan ruled the underworld of Mumbai during late sixties and mid- seventies, it was Karim Lala, born in Afghanistan, who is considered to be the true founder of Mafia in Mumbai city.
Lala’s gang was involved in the smuggling of Jewellery, running gambling dens and extortion rackets. The third of these, Varadrajan Muniswami Mudaliar, had come to Bombay from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, but became actively involved in the underworld of Mumbai in the seventies and eighties. However, his terror ended with his death in late eighties in Madras.
However, this effort to make a film based on these three gangsters is nothing new and a few films had been made in the past too.
For instance, it is said that Amitabh Bachchan starrer film ‘Deewar’ was loosely based on the life story of dreaded gangster Haji Mustan. Big B had meticulously learned the mannerism of the don to portray it realistically in the film. Similarly, Tamil film ‘Nayakan’ was said to be based on the life history of underworld don Varadrajan Mudaliar.
In addition to the terror created by these gangsters, the film will also portray the cabaret culture of the seventies in the film. It was the most popular thing in the night life of Bombay during those days and could be seen in almost every other movie of that time. Helen was the cabaret diva of the period and valued highly for her dancing prowess.
Sanjay Dutt’s film is being produced by Suniel Shetty’s Popcorn Entertainment and Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms jointly and is likely to go on the floors soon after the finalization of other cast members.

Ranbir, Deepika haven't kissed yet?

Ranbir, Deepika haven't kissed yet?
Saturday, August 2, 2008: (New Delhi): They may have been 'officially' seeing each other since February this year, but Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone expect us to believe that they haven't yet kissed each other! They first met in July 2007. In an interview with People magazine, both deny any lip-lock between them. The closest thing resembling a kiss that Ranbir seems to have done is to give Deepika - a widely publicised - peck on the cheek at Bangkok airport. The Ranbir-Deepika romance also has a cupid. Senior make-up artiste Dorris Godambe first introduced the couple to each other and then the sparks literally flew.Perhaps inspired by his musical 'bare-butted' debut, Ranbir's first gift to his latest lady love was a piano. That the lady love doesn't know how to play it was immaterial. And in return got a MacBook Air (hope he knows how to 'play' it).The Saawariya star does play football, and we are looking forward to a Ranbir Raj versus Shanti Priya match. And hope Ranbir wins; he might just get that elusive kiss as a prize.

The unbeatable Khiladi

The unbeatable Khiladi
(NSI News Source Info) Friday - August 01, 2008: It’s action time for Akshay Kumar and how! Things couldn’t have been better—his show Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi according to rating agency Amap opened to 1.7, a good start for a new show on a new channel. The complimentary messages have reached and he is understandably chuffed.
That he’s managed to stand out in an already cluttered space—game shows being hosted by superstars namely Shah Rukh and Salman Khan — totally justifies the impressive 1.5 crore per episode that the channel is supposed to have doled out to rope him in. It is likely to strengthen his reputation as a hit machine who in industry parlance is paisa vasool (value for money spent). In his case, it’s no small amount—the oft-quoted figure being Rs 30 crores. Meanwhile there is no confirmations yet on whether the channel will consider a season 2 of the show.
Speaking to Screen from Los Angeles where he was busy with Kambakkth Ishq, Kumar sounds both exhausted and exhilarated. “Mentally, women are stronger than men. They have been very brave in the face of danger,” and then after a pause, adding, “I have made those girls cry.”
Those who have seen the show will vouch for it.
The actor is as unrelenting and unsympathetic at most times as a sergeant at the boot camp. But that’s part of the charm. Sporting a scraggly look -- vests, bomber jackets, cheetah print zip up shirts, a closely cropped mane and a mean stubble with generous amounts of gray, Kumar looks dapper in a way that’s far removed from the look in his movies. Clearly, this is no song and dance sequence. What you have instead are snakes, vermin and jumps from dizzying heights and 13 brave girls with Akshay playing the ringmaster.
From all accounts, his performance at Bachchan’s The Unforgettable Tour in Toronto was a scene-stealer and then Singh Is Kinng, the title of his next film, has become a catchphrase all around what with PM Manmohan Singh’s government winning the confidence motion in Parliament. As for sharing screen space with Sly Stallone, we’d save that for another day.
The actor on his part is clear that no matter the degree of success, he would never take his audiences for granted. “To assume that one is bigger than the audience is nothing short of professional hara-kiri. I respect their intelligence.”
Well his theory seems to be working for the audiences if the successful run of his recent films is a measure—they seem to love him. And Bollywood is certainly cashing in on the success of the man with the Midas touch.
There is Vipul Shah’s Singh Is Kinng as also Chandni Chowk To China. The former, says the actor is the sort of film his father would like to watch while the latter is an autobiographical movie tracing the actor’s well-chronicled journey from his childhood home in Delhi to Bangkok where he worked as a chef and picked up his martial arts skills.
Any concerns about the actor having digressed from his action path would have been allayed by Khatron Ke Khiladi. And with the wide ranging genre of films that he’s signed up –comedy (Housefull), thriller (Eight By Ten with Nagesh Kukunoor) and everything in-between, his friends and detractors alike will be keeping an eye on him.

Actresses in late 20s aren’t old: Bipasha

Actresses in late 20s aren’t old: Bipasha
Friday , August 01, 2008: Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu on Friday rued the trend of making actresses in their late 20s feel "old".
"I agree that Bollywood is a male-centric industry. But, I expect the media to be intelligent. If heroes who are over 40 are paired opposite much younger heroines, it is not talked about," Bipasha told reporters in Mumbai.
"But if I am romantically paired against heroes two to three years younger than me, a big issue is made out of it. It is really unfortunate," she said responding to questions on being cast opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Bachna Aae Haseeno and Neil Nitin Mukesh in Freeze.
The sizzling Jism actress said she had a western persona attached to her image because of her modeling background. "But I think I am adaptable because I have a very Indian face," she added.
Asked about co-stars on Bachna.... newcomers Ranbir and Deepika Padukone, Bipasha said they were groomed well before facing the camera.
"Ranbir has even worked as an assistant director. Compared to them, I have learnt everything while on the job," she added.
According to her, she is liked as a personality even off-screen. "In a male-dominated industry, what more can I ask for?" she said.
Regarding milestones in her career, Bipasha said her second film Raaz was special because after it the industry has not seen a golden jubilee till date.
"Present-day film business depends on how well or bad a film does in its opening week," she added.
Speaking about Bachna...., Bipasha said only team work can make a movie successful.
"If the whole film is good, it connects with the people immediately," she added.
The actress said Bachna.... will appeal to all kinds of audience. "It is about modern people who believe in the sanctity of love. There is a range of emotions for a strong character which I essay," she said.
Bipasha said apart from Freeze, she is also shooting for Pankh directed by Sudipto Chattopadhya for White feather films.
"It is about a boy who has essayed roles of girls in movies. I play an imaginary character in the film," she added.

John, Ash in Sriram Raghavan's next

John, Ash in Sriram Raghavan's next
Friday, August 1, 2008: (Mumbai): Master of the thriller Sriram Raghavan, who is set to visit a new genre with an Aishwarya Rai-John Abraham starrer, says like many directors, he too cherishes the thought of working with Bollywood icon Amitbah Bachchan - but doesn't have a suitable script for him."Every director in Mumbai wants to work with Mr Bachchan at least once. I also want to work with him but I don't have a script for him right now," Raghavan, who recently made Johnny Gaddar, said."I feel the script is the backbone (of the film). If not a bound script, one should have a very strong idea about the treatment of the film. You have to keep working on it. My script for John-Ash is ready but I will do two more drafts before it actually goes on the floor," he added.About his other favourites, he said: "There are others but it depends on the subject. I don't look at the actors first and then go for a script. If a story suits Shah Rukh Khan, I would love to go and meet him and work with him. Otherwise, I am okay with different casts. I try for the best cast once the story is ready."An alumnus of Pune's Film and Television Institute of India, Raghavan made his first feature film in 2004. Titled Ek Hasina Thi, the film showcased Urmila Matondkar and Saif Ali Khan in a completely new avatar. Critics and audiences loved the film and the lead actors' performances. In 2007, he released his critically acclaimed Johnny Gaddar and introduced Neil Nitin Mukesh with the thriller.Unlike his last two ventures, the John-Ash starrer will be a light film and Raghavan plans to give it a completely different treatment."I have made two thrillers that doesn't mean I don't like other genres. I want to do other genres. This film has got shocks and surprises, but it is not a thriller. It is more of a personal story. It doesn't have blood or guns."It is not a romantic thriller and it is not a romantic comedy either. It is a different kind of film. I can't give you the plotline right now because it is too early. The film will be released after a year or so I can't talk about it," added the director."Like my last two films, this one is also set in Mumbai and Ramesh Sippy is producing it. As for the budget I don't know," Raghavan said. What of the confusing reports about John-Ash playing the lead in the film."The confusion was because they had liked the basic storyline but I hadn't got the script ready. Even then, they agreed to do the film. I had dates of beginning of this year - February-March - but couldn't use them because I hadn't finished the script by then."So I pushed the project back. Now, I have to wait for them to be free. I don't know when I will start shooting the film," Raghavan added. Why Ash and John?"I'm not casting Aishwarya or John because they are big names. I am casting them because they are right for the film. I won't cast anyone if I don't have the confidence in that person."I have taken Aishwarya because she is a good actor. And John has a very likeable presence and I feel that his potential has not been fully exploited," the director maintained.
