Is Rekha Not Doing Umrao Jaan Sequel?

Is Rekha Not Doing Umrao Jaan Sequel?

BHGSG News - TORONTO, Canada September 30, 2013: Though director Muzaffar Ali was eager to rope in the veteran actor for the sequel of his 1981 blockbuster, we hear Rekha isn’t too keen to be part of the film

Muzaffar Ali wanted to make a comeback in Bollywood and hence asked his good Javed Siddiqui to the write the screenplay of Umrao Jaan’s sequel. Ali even wanted his original heroine Rekha to do a cameo in the sequel of his 1981 blockbuster which also starred Farooque Shaikh and Naseeruddin Shah. While Rekha’s breathtaking performance in Umrao Jaan earned her the prestigious National Award, the B-town diva, it is believed has turned down the offer to act in Umrao Jaan 2.

Reportedly, the sequel is centered on Rekha’s character who sets out to take revenge from her enemies from the first film. Muzaffar Ali and Javed Siddiqui worked together three decades ago on Umrao Jaan. And while the two have come together once again for the sequel, wethinks if Rekha had accepted the offer, life would have come to full circle for the trio!

Breaking the grass ceiling: meet the women investing in a pair of balls

Breaking the grass ceiling: meet the women investing in a pair of balls

Golf has long been man's game. Kathryn Dobinson speaks to professional women who are utilising the golden snitches of business – golf balls – to tangible effects by joining a "golf for girls" networking scheme.

Ladies, if you want to be ballsy in business, you need to invest in a pair.
This isn’t about stuffing a lumpy pair of socks down your Marks and Sparks knock knocks, rest assured, it’s about utilising the golden snitches of business – golf balls.
For golf, says Adrienne Waxauthor of Even Par: How Golf Helps Women Gain the Upper Hand in Business, is a critical tool in building and retaining client relationships which then translate into new business opportunities. The problem is that "women don’t seem to have got the ‘memo' about how effective a career tool the game is,” she tuts.
Some 90pc of 500 Fortune chief executives play golf, which proves Wax’s first point, but 481 of this Fortune 500 are men, proving her second. And I need not remind you of the recent hoo-hah at Augusta National Golf Club to hammer home that the green is perceived male territory.
Georgina Casas, a 35 year-old director at Hays Recruitment company, is putting paid to all that, founding the first 'Golf for the Girls' networking programme in London. The programme of tutorials and practice rounds in partnership with City Golf on Coleman Street have been so popular that the first inaugural women’s golf day went ahead this week at the world class Wentworth golf club in Surrey.
“We wanted to set up something across all sectors to engage female talent and we were inundated with applications when we first came up with the idea in September 2012,” she says. “There are 65 clients from retail, investment banking, professional services, finance, technology and wealth and asset management who join forces and meet up at 7am before work on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning for monthly lessons.
"All ladies here are really sporty but none had played golf before. The first couple of lessons were frustrating and I thought 'this is really hard.' But then the penny dropped and now I can't get enough of it."
Historically women have seen the relationships men have developed on the golf course, she says. “There's over 500 staff at Hays and a ratio which is roughly 60/40 men to women. It's heavily male-dominated. I would find it hard and pressured to play with a group of males but maybe now I would be comfortable playing in a mixed group.
“What we’ve proved is we can certainly hold our own on the golf course. It's been a real eye-opener that, OK, we can do it. Move over boys.”
The results are tangible. Maybe the appeal lays in the forgiving handicap system that allows clients of differing ability to play together competitively. Charlotte Wheeldon is a corporate partner at law firm Wallace and says it's a fantastic way to build contacts and strengthen existing relationships. “A lot of my clients are keen golfers, and eighteen holes on a great course is often far more appealing to them than a business lunch.”
Similarly Wax, a former senior level advertising executive, says that some of her most important clients were golfers. “Not once did we discuss business during the entire day. As a result of our day of golf, we ended up becoming fast friends and golf buddies.” The hard bottom line? “They spent lots of money with us,” she says in her book.
But Condoleezza Rice (pictured), former US secretary of state, took up the sport when she was 50 and says she savoured the ‘strategy’ of the game and that it taught her patience. That kind of personal development is clear to see on the Hays programme. “Having given up a few very early, very dark, very cold mornings over the past few months for networking with a difference, I definitely have a greater appreciation of the sport and to some extent myself,” says Penny, an investment banker.
“I now appreciate the erudite ability, physical and mental strength, concentration and the personal battle that is undertaken with every stroke.
“There is a metaphor in there relating to my career in the city that I am sure many women will relate to.”

Monday morning at the 66th Cannes film festival, where the Coen brothers' latest film, Inside Llewyn Davis, has been making quite a splash. In a five-star review the Guardian's Peter Bradshaw called it the "best so far at Cannes":
Cannes audiences just heard a clean, hard crack: the sound of the Coen brothers hitting one out of the park. Their new film is brilliantly written, terrifically acted, superbly designed and shot; it's a sweet, sad, funny picture about the lost world of folk music which effortlessly immerses us in the period.
Read the full review here, take a look at a similarly enthusiastic video review from Henry Barnes ("this is real genius"), and also see Charlotte Higgins' report from the ILD press conference.
It's not been ALL Coen brothers over the weekend: catch up reviews ofJimmy P. (Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian) (the biggest stinker at Cannes so far, by the sound of it), guilty-pleasure documentary Seduced and Abandoned, 70s-set 'whopping cop-opera' Blood Ties, and alsoMonsoon ShootoutTip TopBorgman and The Dance of Reality.
Elsewhere we've interviewed Heli-director Amat Escalante, and, to the endless chagrin of certain below-the-line commenters, there are moregalleries of film stars swanking about on red carpets.
Coming up later: Xan Brooks' diary, a Guardian Film Show Cannes-special, an interview British director Paul Wright, reviews of As I Lay Dying (James Franco's second film as director – will it improve on hisfirst?), A Castle in Italy, The Grand Beauty and Takeshi Miike's Shield of Straw, photo galleries, news, comment, and possibly the odd bit of lowest-common denominator celeb tittle-tattle (fingers crossed). More as it comes in.

Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar And Shahrukh Khan Come Together For Filmfare Cover

BHGSG News - TORONTO, Canada - April 14, 2013:  Three of Hindi cinema’s larger-than-life living legends have come together for a one of its kind photoshoot.

Leading film glossy, Filmfare has managed to pull off an unimaginable coup to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema. Bollywood’s three legendary superstars, Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan have come together for the cover shot of the magazine’s specially crafted collector’s edition. The trio certainly make for a memorable cover. While Dilip Kumar looks absolutely dapper and elegant in his suit, the man of the millennium Amitabh Bachchan looks his sexiest best in his thick white beard. Big B’s velvet jacket with a pristine white shirt underneath makes him look the iconic shehenshah of B-town that he truly is. And then there is Shahrukh Khan who simply exudes his undeniable charm in this frame.

Style-wise, we think Dilip Kumar looks his best. The thespian’s inherent grace and calm countenance make this cover picture look magical. Big B too with his imposing frame and equally striking pose looks the demigod of the Hindi cinema, and SRK, with his perfectly cut jacket complemented with a white shirt, gives that special edge to the cover. Now you tell us who do you like the most in this iconic picture!

Yash Chopra ~ "King of Romance" No More

Yash Chopra ~ "King of Romance" No More

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - October 21, 2012: Veteran Bollywood filmmaker Yash Chopra, who gave Indian cinema path breaking movies, passed away in Mumbai on Sunday evening.

The producer- director was suffering from dengue and after being diagnosed he was admitted to Lilavati hospital last week.
Chopra reportedly fell ill on October 10, upon returning home from superstar Amitabh Bachchan's birthday party.

Yash Chopra was on life support-system for some time now. According to hospital reports Mr Chopra suffered from multiple organ failure.
Yash Raj Films issued a statement to the media, saying: "Yash Chopraji breathed his last at around 5.30pm today (IST). Details of his last rites will be communicated later."
The 80 year old legend was working on his up coming movie 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' and announced his retirement after the movie.

After the filmmaker was admitted speculations were rife about his movie being delayed. 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' will remain his unfinished movie as he was yet to shoot a romantic song between lead actor Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif.
Great loss to Indian cinema
Film director Subhash Ghai said to media: "It's a great loss to Indian cinema. Yashji had always said he wants to die making films.

"He was full of energy; an inspiration truly."
Regarded as the country's king of celluloid romance, Chopra has also proved his mettle with intensely emotional and tragic movies, many of which went on to become box-office blockbusters.
Born in 1932 in Lahore, now in Pakistan, the film-maker was favoured by leading Indian actors with his movies seen as a sure-fire way to become a hit with audiences.
Chopra has made some of Indian cinema's most memorable films such as Deewar, Kabhi Kabhie, Silsila and Chandni. His flamboyant style of film-making, movies filmed in exotic locales and mellifluous music became a hallmark, endearing him to filmgoers.
Chiffon sarees and the Swiss Alps are so synonymous with Chopra's style of film-making that Switzerland Tourism even offered visitors a guided tour of the places where the director filmed some of his most famous songs and scenes.
Riding on his success, Chopra established Yash Raj Films, one of Bollywood's biggest production houses, churning out at least three movies a year. In November, the film studio announced its foray into Hollywood, signing on actors such as Nicole Kidman and Jason Bateman for its overseas productions.
Chopra also produced Indian cinema's longest-running blockbuster, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), which marked the debut of his son Aditya as director.
"I have never made romantic films. I have made films on human relations, and humans are complicated people," Chopra said in a recent interview.

Kim Kardashian Reveals Butt In See Through Skirt

Kim Kardashian Reveals Butt In See Through Skirt

By Katrina Mitzeliotis - Hollywood Life

Kim puhleeze! Yes, you’re a sexy, sexy woman but you need to look in the mirror before going out. Showing butt crack is NOT cool. Do you agree?

While some would shy away from squeezing into super tight clothing all the time, Kim Kardashian embraces the look — and that’s exactly what she did when she stepped out in Miami with boyfriend Kanye West, for dinner at Prime 112 on Oct. 14. Clad in a super-tight see-through skirt, when she turned around her whole backside was on full display — and it looks like Kim stepped out sans panties!

The reality star really left little to the imagination, pairing the tight, high-waisted pencil skirt with a crop top. While I appreciate the fashion-forward pairing and I love the idea of a crop top and a high-waisted skirt, I think it works best when the clothing isn’t so tight. Sometimes it’s nice to offset the top with a skirt that flares out. The combination of showing so much skin, (including her ample cleavage), and the skin-tight skirt was very severe. Sometimes more is more, (when it comes to clothing).

There’s no denying the fact that Kim has a great figure, but this wasn’t the best way to show it off. Given that she’s so used to being in the spotlight, I would think she would give an ensemble a double-take before stepping out in something that turns see-through in the light! Kim definitely showed off more than she bargained for. What do you think of her outfit?

DTN News - SPECIAL REPORT FROM ENTERTAINMENT WORLD: Singer Whitney Houston Dies At 48

DTN News - SPECIAL REPORT FROM ENTERTAINMENT WORLD: Singer Whitney Houston Dies At 48
Source: DTN News - - This article compiled by Roger Smith from reliable sources CBS News
(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - February 11, 2012:
Whitney Houston, who ruled as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, has died. She was 48.
Houston's publicist, Kristen Foster, said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unknown.
News of Houston's death came on the eve of music's biggest night — the Grammy Awards. It's a showcase where she once reigned, and her death was sure to case a heavy pall on Sunday's ceremony. Houston's longtime mentor Clive Davis was to hold his annual concert and dinner Saturday; it was unclear if it was going to go forward.
At her peak, Houston the golden girl of the music industry. From the middle 1980s to the late 1990s, she was one of the world's best-selling artists. She wowed audiences with effortless, powerful, and peerless vocals that were rooted in the black church but made palatable to the masses with a pop sheen.
Her success carried her beyond music to movies, where she starred in hits like "The Bodyguard" and "Waiting to Exhale."
She had the he perfect voice, and the perfect image: a gorgeous singer who had sex appeal but was never overtly sexual, who maintained perfect poise.
She influenced a generation of younger singers, from Christina Aguilera to Mariah Carey, who when she first came out sounded so much like Houston that many thought it was Houston.
But by the end of her career, Houston became a stunning cautionary tale of the toll of drug use. Her album sales plummeted and the hits stopped coming; her once serene image was shattered by a wild demeanor and bizarre public appearances. She confessed to abusing cocaine, marijuana and pills, and her once pristine voice became raspy and hoarse, unable to hit the high notes as she had during her prime.
"The biggest devil is me. I'm either my best friend or my worst enemy," Houston told ABC's Diane Sawyer in an infamous 2002 interview with then-husband Brown by her side.
It was a tragic fall for a superstar who was one of the top-selling artists in pop music history, with more than 55 million records sold in the United States alone.
She seemed to be born into greatness. She was the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston, the cousin of 1960s pop diva Dionne Warwick and the goddaughter of Aretha Franklin.

In this July 11, 1999, file photo, singer Whitney Houston performs "Until You Come Back To Me" during the 26th annual American Music Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Houston first started singing in the church as a child. In her teens, she sang backup for Chaka Khan, Jermaine Jackson and others, in addition to modeling. It was around that time when music mogul Clive Davis first heard Houston perform.
"The time that I first saw her singing in her mother's act in a club ... it was such a stunning impact," Davis told "Good Morning America."
"To hear this young girl breathe such fire into this song. I mean, it really sent the proverbial tingles up my spine," he added.
Before long, the rest of the country would feel it, too. Houston made her album debut in 1985 with "Whitney Houston," which sold millions and spawned hit after hit. "Saving All My Love for You" brought her her first Grammy, for best female pop vocal. "How Will I Know," "You Give Good Love" and "The Greatest Love of All" also became hit singles.
Another multiplatinum album, "Whitney," came out in 1987 and included hits like "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody."
The New York Times wrote that Houston "possesses one of her generation's most powerful gospel-trained voices, but she eschews many of the churchier mannerisms of her forerunners. She uses ornamental gospel phrasing only sparingly, and instead of projecting an earthy, tearful vulnerability, communicates cool self-assurance and strength, building pop ballads to majestic, sustained peaks of intensity."
Her decision not to follow the more soulful inflections of singers like Franklin drew criticism by some who saw her as playing down her black roots to go pop and reach white audiences. The criticism would become a constant refrain through much of her career. She was even booed during the "Soul Train Awards" in 1989.
"Sometimes it gets down to that, you know?" she told Katie Couric in 1996. "You're not black enough for them. I don't know. You're not R&B enough. You're very pop. The white audience has taken you away from them."
Some saw her 1992 marriage to former New Edition member and soul crooner Bobby Brown as an attempt to refute those critics. It seemed to be an odd union; she was seen as pop's pure princess while he had a bad-boy image, and already had children of his own. (The couple had a daughter, Bobbi Kristina, in 1993.) Over the years, he would be arrested several times, on charges ranging from DUI to failure to pay child support.
But Houston said their true personalities were not as far apart as people may have believed.
"When you love, you love. I mean, do you stop loving somebody because you have different images? You know, Bobby and I basically come from the same place," she told Rolling Stone in 1993. "You see somebody, and you deal with their image, that's their image. It's part of them, it's not the whole picture. I am not always in a sequined gown. I am nobody's angel. I can get down and dirty. I can get raunchy."
It would take several years, however, for the public to see that side of Houston. Her moving 1991 rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" at the Super Bowl, amid the first Gulf War, set a new standard and once again reaffirmed her as America's sweetheart.
In 1992, she became a star in the acting world with "The Bodyguard." Despite mixed reviews, the story of a singer (Houston) guarded by a former Secret Service agent (Kevin Costner) was an international success.
It also gave her perhaps her most memorable hit: a searing, stunning rendition of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You," which sat atop the charts for weeks. It was Grammy's record of the year and best female pop vocal, and the "Bodyguard" soundtrack was named album of the year.
She returned to the big screen in 1995-96 with "Waiting to Exhale" and "The Preacher's Wife." Both spawned soundtrack albums, and another hit studio album, "My Love Is Your Love," in 1998, brought her a Grammy for best female R&B vocal for the cut "It's Not Right But It's Okay."
But during these career and personal highs, Houston was using drugs. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2010, she said by the time "The Preacher's Wife" was released, "(doing drugs) was an everyday thing. ... I would do my work, but after I did my work, for a whole year or two, it was every day. ... I wasn't happy by that point in time. I was losing myself."
In the interview, Houston blamed her rocky marriage to Brown, which included a charge of domestic abuse against Brown in 1993. They divorced in 2007.
Houston would go to rehab twice before she would declare herself drug-free to Winfrey in 2010. But in the interim, there were missed concert dates, a stop at an airport due to drugs, and public meltdowns.
She was so startlingly thin during a 2001 Michael Jackson tribute concert that rumors spread she had died the next day. Her crude behavior and jittery appearance on Brown's reality show, "Being Bobby Brown," was an example of her sad decline. Her Sawyer interview, where she declared "crack is whack," was often parodied. She dropped out of the spotlight for a few years.
Houston staged what seemed to be a successful comeback with the 2009 album "I Look To You." The album debuted on the top of the charts, and would eventually go platinum.
Things soon fell apart. A concert to promote the album on "Good Morning America" went awry as Houston's voice sounded ragged and off-key. She blamed an interview with Winfrey for straining her voice.
A world tour launched overseas, however, only confirmed suspicions that Houston had lost her treasured gift, as she failed to hit notes and left many fans unimpressed; some walked out. Canceled concert dates raised speculation that she may have been abusing drugs, but she denied those claims and said she was in great shape, blaming illness for cancellations.
