"Desperate Housewives" may add four seasons
(NSI News Source Info) LOS ANGELES - December 11, 2008: "Desperate Housewives" in 2012?
Series creator Marc Cherry let slip Wednesday that he is in talks with ABC about continuing the hit comedy-drama for another four seasons.
The cast of "Desperate Housewives" Dana Delany, Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria and Nicollette Sheridan (L-R) take the stage at the 60th annual Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles September 21, 2008
"I started recently talks with (ABC Entertainment president) Steve McPherson and (ABC Studios president) Mark Pedowitz about continuing the show for a ninth season," Cherry was quoted saying at a cake-cutting ceremony for the show's 100th episode. "We're going to find a way to make it work."
ABC confirmed the plan but stressed that no deals have been made.
"Housewives," now in its fifth season, is yet to be renewed beyond May.
For the past year, Cherry had been saying publicly that he intended to set a firm end date for the series after seven seasons.
On Wednesday, he acknowledged that he recently had changed his mind as the show rebounded creatively and ratings-wise this fall, ranking as ABC's top scripted series.
"The five-year jump seems to have reinvigorated interest in the show, and the ratings are terrific," Cherry said, referring to the show's story leaping five years into the future.
