Potato only makes up 42% of the ingredients of Pringles
Pringles, the popular snack food in a tube, are not potato crisps, a High Court judge has ruled.
Their packaging, "unnatural shape" and the fact that the potato content is less than 50% helped Mr Justice Warren make his crunch decision.
As a result, Pringles, in all flavours are free from Value Added Tax (VAT).
Manufacturer Procter & Gamble (P&G) is likely to save millions of pounds as a result of the decision - with customers also likely to pay less.

P&G had gone to court to challenge a VAT and Duties Tribunal decision that the Pringle was subject to the standard 17.5% rate of VAT because it was "a potato crisp product", which are, unlike most food, subject to the tax.
But the manufacturer had insisted that their best-selling product was not similar to potato crisps, because of their "mouth melt" taste, "uniform colour" and "regular shape" which "is not found in nature".
It also argued that potato crisps - unlike Pringles - did not contain non-potato flours, and were not packaged in tubes.
Pringles are more like a cake or a biscuit, it claimed, because they are manufactured from dough.
Mr Justice Warren ruled that Pringles were not "made from the potato" - as set out in the definition laid down by the 1994 VAT Act.
To be subject to VAT, a product "must be wholly, or substantially wholly, made from the potato".
But he said that Pringles did not meet these criteria - being made from potato flour, corn flour, wheat starch and rice flour together with fat and emulsifier, salt and seasoning, with a potato content of about 42%.
Taking the biscuit
Separately, the Food and Agricultural Organisation and the World Health Organisation have decided - after seven years of debate - what qualifies as a proper tomato.
The ruling means tomatoes may be round, ribbed, oblong or elongated, or can be cherry tomatoes or cocktail tomatoes. Other characteristics include being clean, whole, fresh in appearance, and free from foreign smells and pests.
Earlier this year the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled that the UK Treasury had wrongly imposed VAT on a Marks and Spencer teacake. Customers paid VAT for 20 years before the authorities accepted the product was a cake, which does not command VAT.
Under UK tax rules, most traditional bakery products such as bread, cakes, flapjacks and Jaffa Cakes are free of VAT, but the tax is payable on cereal bars, shortbread and partly-coated or wholly-coated biscuits.

It’s a beautiful dream for those who love living in the dreamlands only; but what about the audience who are quite bored with repetitive Bollywoody love stories!
Karan Oberoi (Harman Baweja) is the only son of famed businessman Mr. Oberoi (Dalip Tahil). Karan is not happy with his father as because his father is more interested in cars, business and achievement than his only son. Being very lonely and having the thought in mind that his unfortunate accidents would bring no loss to anyone, Karan always prefers to play with danger. In the course of the mundane story, Karan meets Sana (Priyanka Chorpa) and for obvious reasons (love, I mean to say) they decide on getting married. And here comes the twist. Sana meets an accident and she dies leaving Karan all alone.
On the other hand the Love Story has Karan’s uncle, Dr. Yatinder Khanna (Boman Irani), who by profession is a scientist. Dr. Khanna has been working on a time machine for last fifteen years so that he can poke into the future to how the things will change (obviously).
Karan meets Dr. Khanna and recapping Sana’s dream about entering the year 2050, they go to the year 2050 with the time machine. Entering the future Karan comes to know that Sana is now the best rock-star of the world living in Mumbai and is named as Zaisha. Ultimately Karan succeeds in getting his love, Sana alias Zaisha, back to the present with the help of QUTY and BOO, two robotic dolls taking care of Zaisha.

Harry Baweja has beautifully taken care of direction as well as the story but at some places the story becomes little slow. Music and lyrics of the film looks nice but at the same time it appears little difficult to say that songs will look something like that with flying cars in the year 2050. Priyanka has worked well in accordance with her character. Whether Harman’s resemblance with Hrithik is a bane or boon is a quiz immaterial but his impact on the screen is quite impressive. Boman Irani has depicted his character quite well. Archana Puran Singh looks good in her character of Priyanka’s mother.
The first part of the film is based on the love story between Priyanka and Harman and the funny thing is the second part of the film is also based on their love story. The only difference is the second part happens in the year 2050.
Coming to the much hyped special effects, Harry has proved it a mark in Indian film history but it’s quite difficult to say whether the world, especially Mumbai, will look somewhat like that in the year 2050. This possibly is the first Indian film that marvels in special effects and people seem really amazed but at the same time few people are inclined to believe it a copy of some Hollywood flick. Being neutral it’s better to buy both the opinions. One funny thing is, even in 2050, corruption remain our inseparable characteristic. On the other hand the robot snake shows the fatal future of today’s reptiles (?).
QUTY and BOO show the great creative status of the director but the size of BOO is little small than what people have expected it to be. The film, flaunting a budget of fifty crore, must have earned a cool amount from Lux and Lawman. At the same time, the brand owners must be feeling good thinking about how their brands will be famous among stars even in 2050.

But I have a long way to go and need to groom myself to meet the expectations of producers, directors and fans.Your success at the box office was assured the moment you were cast opposite Shah Rukh Khan…I am lucky that every thing fell into place in my first Bollywood film. I will, of course, remain indebted to director Farah Khan and Shah Rukh for considering me for the film. But give me some credit as well (laughs). In what ways has Om Shanti Om affected your private life?I am still to register all that has happened to me post Om Shanti Om. After a disastrous start to the new year with ‘Tashan’ , a lot seems to be riding on Kunal Kohli’s ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic’. Why not? Especially when Kunal has given hits like ‘Fanaa’ and ‘Hum Tum’. The music for this album has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy who return to the Yash Raj camp after ‘Jhoom Barabar’. The lyrics have been penned by Prasoon Joshi who was instrumental in the success of ‘Fanaa’ with some splendid lines.The album begins with ‘Pyaar Ke Liye’ with some beautifully penned lines by Prasoon Joshi. The track has been crooned by Shankar Mahadevan and is serene. The song carries a complete calm atmosphere except for the ‘oohooh’ bit which takes away the calmness. Still the track remains a pretty decent number.‘Nihaal Ho Gayi’ comes in as the finest from the album. The qawalli-punjabi feel lifts the song and makes it a meaningfully dance oriented track. Crooned by Shankar once again, calls for complete attention towards the splendid lyrics. With lines such as ‘Jisko mein bheed samajta tha,Wohlog ho gaye’; the track is a complete winner. The remix version too should be well received by the masses.‘Bulbula’ brings in Sundihi Chauhan carrying the fairy feel with ease. The song is just apt with the theme of the film thus portraying Rani Mukherjee as a fairy etc. The track is sure set to get the kids glued on with some great visuals.‘Lazy Lamhe’ carries the oomph factor in a so called children’s film. The track has been rendered by newcomer Anusha Mani and the track indeed carries the Indi-pop feel to it. The remix version by DJ Aqeel also proves to be a winner. The track is sure to come in as the magical portion for the film.‘Beetey Kal Se’ comes in as a complete track for the kids. The track has a definite fairy feel to it, with dialogues of interaction between Rani Mukherjee and the kids. Meanwhile the track has been crooned by Shreya Ghoshal with a little assistance from the kids –Sneha and Suresh.On the whole, ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic’ carries the magical feel and promises to rope in the entire family for a so called fun filled movie with some feel good compositions.
