It was during the shooting of her upcoming project ‘Naagin- The Snake Woman’ that the sexy bombshell approached G Shankar from Habitat Technology Group to build a six hundred square feet mud house in accordance with the sustainable technology. Her dream hut has already been completed to a large extent and now only the final touches are pending to be given in consultation with Mallika herself.
Sources say that sexy lady is expected to visit the Kovalam site soon to give final touches to her mud house.Sources say that Mallika Sherawat’s hut has been especially designed for her by the Habitat Group and non-conventional material has been used to build it. The Habitat group has not only followed the vernacular idioms of Kerala in building the house but also made the maximum use of bamboo, mud, lime and jaggery( a type of local masala mortar).
The mud house of Mallika is located on a hill and has no motorable roads. The sexy diva will have to go on foot to reach her house. Though a mud house , it has one bedroom for Mallika, one hall to be used as a drawing room for visitors and other amenities like kitchen, bathroom etc.Sources say that Mallika Sherawat has always been influenced by the ideas of sustainable development and green technology so that the non -renewable resources are not destroyed permanently and future generations too get them. The principle also involves the optimum use of scarce resources like water so that it is not wasted and recycling those remains easier.
It is in this background that when Mallika Sherawat came in contact with the Habitat Group during the shooting in Kerala, she asked them to build a house in accordance with those principles. The group, which was established in 1987 and is a pioneer NGO in this field, was only too pleased to co-operate with Mallika in building her house using the green technology and humane architecture.
It may be recalled that Mallika Sherawat has been shooting in Kerala for her film ‘Naagin- The Snake Woman’, which is being directed by Hollywood’s Jennifer Lynch. The sexy actress has been cast in the role of ichhadari naagin, while Irrfan Khan plays the character of a cop who has been assigned the work of catching the naagin. The film is being shot in a start to finish schedule at various locations of India.

For those who don’t already know, she is daughter to the illustrious badminton champ Prakash Padukone. Well, the leggy beauty from Bangalore who has earned the reputation of being the girl to watch out for, must certainly be ecstatic that her song Dhoom tana from Om Shanti Om was played at the closing ceremony -rhythmic gymnasts from Israel performed to the number at the Olympic Games in Beijing. And those complaining can take heart -the song in question has a fleeting shot of playing badminton!
Not too long ago it was Chak De! India resonating through the stadia during cricket matches. Even the political space, during Gujarat elections last year echoed the Chak de Congress slogan and more recently, it was Singh is Kinng refrain that was heard in the corridors of power when the Manmohan Singh-led Congress faction survived the no-confidence motion. The point I am trying to make is that the song and dance of our films could be indicative of a certain trait that most Indians possess-their love for naach-gaana in life.
Be it Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi or Durga Puja, most of our festivals are marked by singing, dancing and making merry. Happy occasions like marriage -in Bihar where my roots are, the women during the countless rituals sing funny, bawdy local geets teasing the bride about her husband, poking fun at the in-laws and more such. During the bidaai, it turns into a wail with songs about the girl leaving her father’s house for good. There are songs sung during harvesting season (this is common practice in other parts of the country as well).
As far as my childhood memories go, pujas are often accompanied by lyrical rendition of the mantras. During Ramanavmi, Ramayana as it is played out before spectators has musical interludes as a narrative device and so on. As has been pointed out in numerous treatises on folk and pop culture, our musical heritage could have something to do with Bollywood’s musical inclination. In fact, as Hindi films begin to take their place in the world, it is perhaps this feature which will be its hallmark that will distinguish it from the rest.
Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding complete with its shaadi n’ sangeet impressed audiences across the world, never mind its modest budget and lack of big ticket stars. It reportedly packed in more people in the theatres in US than Lagaan which was up for Oscars in the foreign film category. Moulin Rouge paid its small tribute to Bollywood style when it incorporated chamma chamma… And spearheading the dance brigade is choreographer, director Farah Khan who has been involved in several prestigious forays on the international front-Vanity Fair, Bombay Dreams and of course, Monsoon Wedding. There’s also Vaibhavi Merchant who along with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali worked on Padmavati, a French opera recently. The opera won good reviews in Paris. New age filmmakers would do well to keep in mind this differentiator when trying to make their way in the global space-putting it to good use might work better than following the western template sans the sangeet!
Meanwhile, Indian television industry is fast acquiring traits that are in keeping with international standards. If you don’t believe me, watch Big Boss (aptly referred to as House of Horrors by noted columnist Shobhaa De). Every participant, by now obviously wise to the tricks of television, is doing their bit to register well with the viewers. Seeing old footage of them (a jailbird, a P3P in news for alleged wife beating and drug abuse, a failed actor, faded TV actor, an OTT item girl, a wannabe starlet and a wannabe big league politico) wave out to crowds before entering the House hinted at just one outcome-Biggest Loser Jeetega. Long live their fifteen minutes of fame!

Akshay, 40, who is riding high on the success of his recent release Singh Is Kinng, will be seen in a series of ad campaigns for the brand. The first television commercial will go on air Wednesday.
"I have maintained myself well and I can carry any product that targets youth. I endorse products which I believe in," said Akshay.

We have worked together and got along really well during my first film Popkorn Khao Mast Ho Jao. “This particular song is a fun number and I wanted someone to add to the fun element. Tanisha is one fun loving girl and was a perfect fit for the song.”
Tanisha who doesn’t know much about Salsa is equally excited about the song, adding, “Yes, this is something new for me thus rehearsals were very important. I will be seen in a pink top and fitted brown pants. This is something I really enjoyed doing.”

Producer Arindam Chaudhuri can't stop raving about Amitabh Bachchan's performance in his ready-to-release English language film The Last Lear. He says that Big B's work in the movie is even better than in Black."I feel this is Amitabh's best performance. He was the obvious choice for the role," Chaudhuri, managing director of Planman Motion Pictures, said."Amitabh suited the role of the ageing theatre actor perfectly. I don't think anyone would have fitted the bill so well. He is so eccentric, performs so brilliantly and the way he speaks English is so impeccable and clear. I feel he is the crowning glory of the film."The Last Lear, directed by award-winning filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh, highlights the different acting skills required for theatre and cinema.Based on Utpal Dutt's play Aajker Shahjahan, the film also stars Preity Zinta, Arjun Rampal, Shefali Shah and Divya Dutta. It is slated for a September 12 release.Besides Amitabh, Chaudhuri is also all praise for director Ghosh, who has earlier made critically acclaimed films like Chokher Bali and Raincoat.He said, "Rituparno Ghosh creates magic out of relationship based cinema. The Last Lear was ready for release last year and was screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).The Last Lear is a niche film and so it was required to be shown internationally before being brought it to India. It has already travelled to film festivals in Toronto, Rome and London."When we thought of releasing the film around the summer vacations this year, the IPL (Indian Premier League) matches were on and there were also a lot of big films packed till now. We wanted to release it at a decent time when there won't be many commercial films to compete with," explained Chaudhuri, who is also a management guru.The theatrical trailers of The Last Lear were added to Akshay Kumar-starrer Singh Is Kinng, which has created waves at the box office."Singh Is Kinng has turned out to be a huge success. I think it will also help our film as seeing a trailer in a theatre is very different from seeing it on TV. The theatrical trailer definitely has more impact and also generates more curiosity in the audience," he said.The Last Lear, shot in Kolkata, Mussoorie and Uttarakhand, will be distributed by PVR across all multiplexes," Chaudhuri added.

Steve Coogan is sometimes absurdly funny as a delusional drama teacher and tortured artist. And a couple of the production numbers in the redux of the Shakespearean play are crazy clever, but the wit is spotty and sporadic. Its sharply funny moments make its lack of consistency all the more evident. The movie ends up feeling like a collection of moments, rather than a coherent quirky comedy.
Coogan plays wannabe actor/ high school drama teacher Dana Marschz (the pronunciation of which is a recurring joke). His failed attempts at acting are a comic highlight. Catherine Keener plays his unhappy wife, Brie, who is joined at the hip by their roommate/boarder (David Arquette).
Dana considers himself an inspirational teacher and courageous drama impresario. But he quakes in the face of the critical pans of a puny ninth-grade student who gives his plays (including a theatrical version of Erin Brockovich) a series of bad reviews.
Dana also is facing the imminent closure of the theater program, as his Tucson public high school faces budget cuts. He conceives of a sequel to Hamlet done as musical theater and is convinced of its brilliance.
The racy material outrages the school principal, and much of the community, but Dana thinks he has hit creative pay dirt. As protests mount, he gets unexpected support from an ACLU lawyer with the amusing name of Cricket Feldstein (Amy Poehler).
Elisabeth Shue has a strange role as a version of herself who has given up acting for nursing. Dana's quest for artistic expression is realized during the musical extravaganza with its ridiculously catchy number,"Rock Me, Sexy Jesus."
This Sundance Film Festival hit is irreverent and occasionally inspired. But the best part is the ambitious production. When it focuses too much on the travails of the high school students he means to guide and mold, the movie strays into "Dangerous Minds" territory and loses its comic punch.
