Brad Pitt Premieres “Burn After Reading” in Toronto
(NSI News Source Info) September 6, 2008: He just got done hamming it up at the Venice Film Festival and now Brad Pitt is back in North America, doing his thing at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The “Oceans Thirteen” stud was the center of attention as he arrived at the Roy Thomson Hall for the big premiere of his latest movie “Burn After Reading” (in theaters Friday, September 12th).

And Brad gave festival goers quite a thrill, looking mighty handsome in a black three-piece suit complete with a black silk tie and a pair of black leather shoes.
If he hadn’t made it in movies, Pitt confessed he would’ve loved to have been a rock star. “I think every guy has fantasized about being up there on stage playing to an audience. I still play the guitar now but at my age I know I suck. I love playing and I love music but that dream has gone.”
Enjoy the pictures of Brad Pitt at the Toronto Film Festival premiere of “Burn After Reading” (September 5).

Fashion Rocks Brings Out the Stars

Fashion Rocks Brings Out the Stars
(NSI News Source Info) September 6, 2008: While New York City has always been a great spot for celebrity sightings, the streets outside of Radio City Music Hall today were a paparazzo’s dream. And it was all thanks to the Conde Nast Media Group’s 5th Annual Fashion Rocks event.
Hosted by Dennis Leary, Fashion Rocks included some of the biggest names in entertainment including Beyonce Knowles, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, and Justin Timberlake.

Looking as ‘Bootylicious’ as ever, Beyonce wowed the crowd with a stunning performance, donning a variety of outfits, including a gorgeous gold dress with matching high heels.
Adding a bit of youth to the evening, Miley Cyrus was the center of attention on the red carpet, rocking a star-spangled silver dress teamed with black peep-toe heels.
Always on top of her fashion game, Rihanna turned heads as she arrived on the Radio City Music Hall red carpet in a strapless black ruffly dress, sporting a short and sexy hairstyle.
But it wasn’t all about the ladies - Justin Timberlake represented the fellas, arriving in a two-tone grey tuxedo and taking the stage (along with Beyonce) in an all-black suit.

On the other hand, Soha plays a Delhi girl. Each one (Soha and Kunal) has a pre-conceived notion about the other, which makes the story interesting.
The film also stars Vinod Khanna, Boman Irani, Cyrus Broacha, Mahesh Manjrekar and Simone Singh in pivotal roles.
The film’s title is very strikingly unique and different. Commenting on the title of the film, producer Shastri said, “The film is titled ‘99′ because it is set in the year 1999. Secondly, it also deals with the magical ‘one’ number that turns 99 into hundred.”
The film is budgeted at an whopping Rs.100 million, and will be directed by two America-based Indian directors - Raj Nidimuro and Krishna DK who have earlier directed movies like ‘Shor’ and ‘Flavors’.

Monica Bedi out of Bigg Boss
(NSI News Source Info) Saturday - September 6, 2008 Mumbai: Bollywood starlet Monica Bedi's journey on Bigg Boss was cut short with her eviction from the reality show on Friday. Monica, who was extradited along with gangster Abu Salem from Portugal in 2005 and lodged in jail in a fake passport case, participated on the show to "start life afresh".After being voted out, Monica said: "I would like to thank god for keeping me in the house till at least three weeks and giving me a chance to come back after all what I have been through (in life)."Monica told show host Shilpa Shetty, "I fear that my intention (to make a comeback) has not been fulfilled." "We were on camera for 24 hours, but out of that 40-45 minute footage was shown everyday, thus I fear that my intention not fulfilled."Shilpa wished her, "I hope you see a different side to life now."In one of the initial episodes of the show, that kick started on channel Colors Aug 17, Monica had said: "I am here to change the image that the media has made in the public about me. I want them to know the real Monica. I am not as bad as people think I am. And I want to do it more for my parents more than for myself."Monica has had a pleasant time on the show where she mixed up with the housemates well, helped everyone with the household chores and took active part in the weekly assignments. On Monday's episode, five house members nominated Monica (for being evicted) along with Rahul Mahajan, son of late Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan.Though Rahul was noticed making romantic advances towards Monica on several occasions, Monica used to walk away to avoid "unnecessary speculation in the media".She has kept a low profile on the show except when item girl Sambhavana Seth irked her to argue on grounds of scheming against few house-members. She was also warned by "Bigg Boss" to avoid removing her mic while talking to other inmates.Monica had entered the "Bigg Boss" house along with 13 other participants, mostly celebrities. The participants are to spend three months closeted in a house sans any communication with the outside world. The winner of the show gets to walk away with a cash prize of Rs.750,000.Monica has acted in about a dozen films like "Pyaar, Ishq Aur Mohabbat", "Jaanam Samjha Karo", "Kaala Samrajya", "Tirchhi Topiwale" and 'Jodi No.1".

I'm not copying Bipasha: Rituparna

I'm not copying Bipasha: Rituparna
(NSI News Source Info) Saturday - September 6, 2008 Kolkata: Rituparna Sengupta is all set to sizzle in the Bengali remake of Bipasha Basu-John Abraham-starrer Hindi film Jism, but she says that unlike the Bollywood actress it would be a challenge for her to play "a sexy loner" convincingly in Trishna."I'm not copying Bipasha in Trishna. It is no doubt a remake of Jism, but there are certain differences," said Rituparna, who is paired opposite newcomer Angshuman in the film."Bipasha did the film at the beginning of her career and people found it easier to identify her 'with her character in the film. But look at me... I have done so many roles over the last 10 years and it will be challenging for me to fit in the role of a sexy loner," she said.Rituparna has gone in for a complete makeover for the film by debutant director Pritam Jalan."My fans will find me in a completely new avatar with curled hair, smoky eyes and skimpy clothes. I'm sure this film is going to set a new trend in the Bengali film industry."My character Piyasha is one synonymous with desire. So I spent long sessions with fashion designer Suchismita to decide my costumes in the film. For the first time you will find me doing lots of skin show. But I have not done anything beyond my comfort level."Shooting for the film has already begun in Kolkata and its suburbs.Asked whether West Bengal's orthodox audience would accept her in her new bold avatar, Rituparna said: "I'm not sure. Honestly speaking, the film is so irresistible that I'm risking my hard-earned reputation by doing it. But I have full faith in my fans."Of late Bengali filmmakers have been influenced by Bollywood movies and now this remake. Does it mean it is running short of ideas?"I don't agree. In fact, the Bengali film industry is becoming more balanced between creativity and commercialisation. And if Bollywood can remake south Indian and Hollywood films, why can't we do so! After all, what matters is entertaining the audience with good movies," she quipped.Rituparna debuted in the Hindi film industry with Main Meri Patni Aur Woh and later featured in Sirf. She is also doing Manish Gupta's Saab Chai Pani, Kalpana Lajmi's woman-oriented Mujhe Rang De with Isha Koppikar and Srinivas's Love Game in which she is paired opposite Randeep Hooda.Bipasha and John's off-screen chemistry worked as a catalyst for their on-screen pairing in Jism. But Rituparna says she feels more sisterly towards actor Anshuman."Anshuman is a newcomer and very shy. During the steamy scenes he used to go literally red. I won't say he is my brother because that will send wrong cues to people, but I do feel sisterly towards him," she said.

Michael Jackson Snubs His Family

Michael Jackson Snubs His Family
(NSI News Source Info) September 5, 2008: As expected, Michael Jackson snubbed his entire family Thursday night and skipped a dinner honoring him and all of them in Los Angeles.
The dinner was hosted by BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.) honoring the Jackson 5 and Janet Jackson. The organizers hoped the dinner would draw out reclusive, absentee Michael, who turned 50 last week.
But getting older hasn't made Jacko nicer or more loyal. He let Janet, Tito, Randy, Marlon and Jackie as well as his sisters LaToya and Rebbie and his parents Katherine and Joe show up and make fake excuses for him while Michael presumably watched cartoons at home in his pajamas surrounded by children.
To be fair, older brother Jermaine was also a no-show, but no one asked where he was.

Marlon Jackson quipped that Michael was "riding a camel in Egypt."
Most of the family has not seen or heard from Michael since his June 2005 acquittal on charges of child molestation and conspiracy. Since then he's lived in Bahrain, Ireland, Northern Virginia and Las Vegas. He's narrowly escaped personal bankruptcy, lost or settled various lawsuits and nearly had his Neverland Ranch taken away from him.
At least Thursday night's BMI dinner once and for all quelled the rumors that Jacko will reunite or tour with his brothers, especially Randy, with whom Michael has financial "issues." That ship has sailed now.
In some ways, it's a fitting ending for papa Joe Jackson, who didn't do himself any favors when he acted as Michael's taskmaster and over-dominating manager during the former pop star's formative years. Locking him in closets when he failed to perform properly, as my sources have said, and possibly worse according to reports, have left the 50-year-old mentally scarred and uninterested in any future relationships.
But Jackson is notoriously disloyal, something his crazed fans have never understood. As this reporter can verify, Michael Jackson left his surrogate dad and protector, Bill Bray, to die an agonizing death in relative poverty with little other than a volunteer caretaker and a hospital bed. Even when told that Bray was dying and needed help, Jackson ignored him.

Toronto: A 'Juno' Re-run?
Audiences at the Toronto Film Festival are crossing their fingers for a rerun of "Juno," the hit movie that got its start here last year.
One of that film's co-stars, Michael Cera, is in "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist," a big studio film masquerading as an indie. It opens early next month.
I saw "Nick and Norah" on Thursday, and while it may strike a cult note with young people, there's little chance it will reach as wide an audience as "Juno" or even "Superbad," Cera's other aberrational hit.
All I could think while watching this nice 20-year-old monotonously make his way through another teen comedy is that he would make a great Dobie Gillis. Someone at 20th Century Fox should sign him up for that before he gets any older.
"Nick and Norah" does feature a lot of indie rock, which is fun, and was shot in New York, which is good for the city. (Some of it doesn't make much sense geographically, and no one drives around Manhattan the way these kids do, but we'll suspend that disbelief.) The characters' names are supposed to come from the fast-talking romantic leads of "The Thin Man" series of classic films.
Thursday night, we also got a look at the very trippy '70s-like road movie "The Brothers Bloom" with Adrien Brody, Rachel Weisz, Mark Ruffalo and Rinko Kikuchi from "Babel." The Blooms are con men, Weisz is their rich "mark" and Rinko doesn't speak through the whole film.
The actors are terrific and few movies or cities (Prague shines) have ever looked this good. The script is strange, though, and not exactly, uh, specific or precise. But everyone gets high marks for ambitious filmmaking.

Katrina Finds Something to Talk About

Katrina Finds Something to Talk About
(NSI News Source Info) September 5, 2008: It's said that Katrina Kaif has finally mastered Hindi and is giving a stunning performance in the filming of Prakash Jha's Rajniti. Rumour also has it that she's had another spat with Salman Khan - this time over the presence of his former love's portrait in his home. Salman, of course, had painted the portrait of Aishwarya Rai himself. He likes it so much that he is reluctant to part from it. We wonder if the spat was in Hindi as Katrina is said to now speak to Salman in the national tongue?Meanwhile, the golden girl, who now has six hits in a row, will be seen playing the cello in Subhash Ghai's Yuvraj. If that's not enough, she will also be seen playing a God in the eagerly-awaited Hello, based on Chetan Bhagat's mega-hit novel One Night At A Call Centre. Katrina is seen in a train compartment with Salman at the beginning of the film and it is she that narrates the story that is to follow. Later, her deified status is revealed. "Yes, Katrina is indeed playing God in Hello," said an insider. "After playing out and out glamorous roles in each of her films so far, Katrina will be seen in a different 'avatar' altogether, as she gets to do God's role. However, it is not one of those performances as seen in mythological films - she will be pretty much the lady of today." For those who haven't yet read the book, please accept this reporter’s advice and do so - it's the most refreshing book I've read in years. The film is scheduled to be released on 10th October. Now if Salman and Kat are the golden couple off-screen, spats aside, on-screen Katrina makes up a golden couple with Akshay Kumar, with the two of them now having enjoyed four hits together. Why does Akshay enjoy working with her so much? “Katrina still exudes freshness in every film and that makes her likable - a rare asset and a goldmine for any actor,” he said. Akshay calls her Little Kat and she calls him Uncle Akshay!Despite the testosterone-fuelled conflict between Salman and SRK, Katrina has confirmed that she will be taking part in SRK's upcoming Temptations Reloaded tour. She will be taking part in the Dubai section. "Yes, I will be performing in the Temptations tour," she confirmed, "I am currently shooting for a Yash Raj film and Raj Kumar Santoshi's Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani is next in the list. So with these films on hand, my dates for the shoot and tour had to be adjusted."The big question of course is 'Will Salman and Katrina get married?' Salman's brother Sohail may have the answer - “Katrina is a part of the family already, " he says, "But I can't really say when it will be official. But they are such that when they marry, they will be dedicated to their marriage.”

Few takers for this Friday's new releases
(NSI News Source Source) Friday - September 5, 2008 New Delhi: The three films up for release this Friday - Tahaan, Hijack and A Wednesday - have so far not got the box office ringing in terms of advance booking. Experts feel, the audience will be guided by the reviews before visiting the multiplexes. These all are low-budget movies and audiences will wait for the critics review first, Munish Sharma, marketing head of Satyam cinemas said. Moreover, Ramadan is not a month for movies as such. However, releases from previous weeks like Rock On, Bachna Ae Haseeno and Singh is Kinng are still doing well, he added.Directed by debutant Neeraj Pandey and produced by UTV, A Wedndesday stars veteran film actors Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah in the lead and is about a series of events that unfolds on a particular Wednesday.Tahaan is set in Kashmir and narrates the story of the young boy Tahaan and his quest across the mountains to find his donkey friend Birbal. Directed by Santosh Sivan, it stars Anupam Kher, Rahul Bose, Rahul Khanna, Victor Banerjee, Sarika and debutant Purav Bhandare.Hijack on the other hand is again directed by a debutant - Kunal Shivdasani. Raina, Mona Ambegaonkar and debutante Kaveri Jha.A Wendesday is releasing with around 250 prints worldwide, and Tahaan with around 100 prints in India and it is also competing in different festivals around the world. No details were available about the prints of Hijack. In terms of budget, producer of A Wendesday, UTV has invested around Rs.60 million including the marketing and distribution costs. Producers of Tahaan and Hijack refused to divulge any details about the budget of their films. However, the distributors claim A Wendesday will be a clear winner among the three movies. There is no competition between the three movies. However, A Wendesday looks a clear winner as it has already been hyped a lot due to UTVs promotion and has been much appreciated at the screenings too, informed Joginder Mahajan, a Delhi-based distributor. All three films have different stories to tell. They are all very well directed. However, the business of the films would be affected due to Ramadan but a good film will always find its audience, Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said.Added Santosh Sivan: All the films have an audience. The idea is to get a good release so that good visibility is ensured.

Ranbir, Deepika reluctant to work together

Ranbir, Deepika reluctant to work together
(NSI News Source Info) Friday - September 5, 2008 Mumbai: After Bachna Ae Haseeno three big directors are trying to cast real life couple Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone together, but the pair is reluctant."We decided to be open about our relationship and lived to regret it because the more open we were the more our honesty was misconstrued. Our right to privacy was completely disregarded. So we've decided to be less public about our relationship. And we don't need to do films together to prove anything," said Deepika.Ranbir debuted with Saawariya and Deepika forayed into films with Om Shanti Om last year. Bachna Ae Haseeno was the second film for both. The directors who have offered them films together include Anees Bazmi, who is taking a break from Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif after Welcome and Singh is Kinng, David Dhawan and Rajkumar Santoshi.Santoshi is already doing a film with Ranbir. It is titled Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani and Katrina is playing the female lead in it.But Ranbir and Deepika are not showing any interest in doing films together after seeing what happened to Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur in all their films until their break-up. The two were seen together in films like Fida and 36 China Town before their break-up, but both the films bombed. However their Jab We Met, which came after the two separated, was a huge success.Recently Kareena featured with her current boyfriend Saif Ali Khan in Tashan and that bombed too."They've definitely been offered films by Bazmi, Dhawan and Santoshi and are considering taking up at least one of these. But Ranbir-Deepika are in no hurry to sign films together. Not after seeing what happened to Kareena and Shahid in all their films until their break-up and recently to Kareena and Saif Ali Khan in Tashan," said a source."Ranbir-Deepika know the public gets satiated reading about real-life couples and seeing them constantly at events on television. The novelty factor is over. Deepika would rather be seen with Saif in Imtiaz Ali's film and Ranbir with Katrina and Konkona Sen Sharma in his forthcoming films rather than come together on screen repeatedly to entertain each other and bore the audience," added the source. At the moment all the three major offers for Ranbir-Deepika are on hold.

Rock On cast condemns B'lore music ban

Rock On cast condemns B'lore music ban
(NSI News Source Info) Friday - September 5, 2008 Banglore: Farhan Akhtar and other cast members of the hit movie Rock On, the first Hindi film on rock music, described the recent ban on live music and dance in the pubs and discos of India's technology hub, as shocking."Music is an integral part of our lives. It is completely wrong to put a ban on performance of live music and dance. Bangalore is known for its feisty rock bands and the curb will act as a deterrent to the creativity of many talented musicians," Farhan said addressing a group of fans and media persons at a multiplex here on Thursday."I too am a musician and I can understand the pain of a performer when he is denied to express himself through his art," added the director, who made his debut as an actor and singer with 'Rock On' that has taken audiences by storm.Farhan, son of script writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar, is a self-taught singer and guitarist and has been a musician for last 12 years.Echoing Farhan's sentiments, model turned actor Arjun Rampal, who according to the critics has given his career's best performance in the film, said that music was no crime and the ban should be revoked soon.Bangalore police imposed the ban in August. The order bans live performances at any place where liquor is served. However, the police has now come up with a set of new guidelines for pubs and discos to get a license for live performances.Farhan, Rampal, Luke Kenny and Purab Kohli, the other two stars of the film spent an hour interacting, singing and jiving with their fans at Fun Cinemas as a part of the post-release promotion of their film. The young crowd at the multiplex almost went berserk when Akhtar, along with his co-stars, performed some of the hits numbers from the film, including Dil Yeah Kya Kehta."I love you all. Bangalore simply rocks," Rampal said as he was mobbed with autograph hunters."I have watched the film thrice. And every time I have loved the movie more. Rock On is about today's youth, their dreams and aspirations. All the four actors have done a great job in the film," said an excited Medha Shah, a college-goer, who bunked her classes to have a glimpse of her favourite actors.Rock On, by debutant director Abhishek Kapoor, is the story of four musician friends, who put up a great rock band together. Unfortunately the band fails to make it big and disintegrates.Years later, as fate would have it, they come back together to fulfill their unfinished dreams. "We've tried to make an honest film with a simple story. We're glad that the audiences have appreciated our effort," said Farhan, the director of box-office hits like Dil Chahta Hai and Don.Farhan has sung five of the nine tracks in the film, the music of which has been composed by music director trio Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy."I have always wanted to be an actor, but was waiting for the right script," said Farhan, who is hugely enjoying his popularity in his latest avatar as an actor.Asked if after the box-office success of Rock On, he has plans to concentrate only on acting, the actor-director said he would like to maintain a balance between both."I love both acting and directing and would like to continue doing both," said Farhan who will be seen as an actor once again in his sister's Zoya Akhtar's directorial venture Lucky by Chance.

Elizabeth Hurley rocked the red carpet

Elizabeth Hurley rocked the red carpet
(NSI News Source Info) September 4, 2008: Elizabeth Hurley definitely looked boobalicious, as usual, at the 2008 Venice Film Festival in this beautiful satin Valentino gown. I’m not usually a fan of satin slip dresses because they have a tendency to look like night gowns. However, this one has just the right amount of detail (and cleavage.) The result? A beautiful and sexy Elizabeth Hurley.

Ahhh, Elizabeth Hurley and her boobs. What would the red carpet be without her…or them? Proving she is never one to shy away from an eye-catching number or a plunging neckline, the former model turned actress turned red carpet Glamazon totally rocked the red carpet in this plunging Valentino gown. Hurley was on the red carpet last week at the annual Venice Film Festival for the biopic premiere of Valentino: The Last Emperor which covers the life of the iconic fashion designer. Valentino regularly dressed Hurley for many of her red carpet struts. I think he would approve of this one.

SRK's Mannat in trouble
(NSI News Source Info) Thursday - September 4, 2008 Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has issued a notice to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan over alleged illegal construction in his palatial bungalow Mannat. The court has also sought explanation from the state government and Bombay Municipal Corporation that on what grounds did they allow the alleged illegal construction. This is not the first time that Shah Rukh's house has been in the eye of storm, earlier also several complaints were filed against his house. But this time round, however, the house is facing heat over the construction of a seven-storeyed building in the backyard. A social worker had filed a filed a PIL last month, before the Bombay High Court against the alleged illegal construction. The PIL also alleged that the actor has further violated the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Notification, 1991, by getting his land classified in the relatively liberal CRZI, when, according to the petition, the plot was in the highly restrictive CRZ-II classification. The work on the bungalow is also said to be in violation with the statutory Heritage Regulations, which regulate that the new building has to be of the same height as that of the old building.

Esha is open for a live-in relationship
(NSI News Source Info) Thursday - September 4, 2008 Mumbai: Esha Deol, daughter of veteran actors Dharmendra and Hema Malini, says that her mom wouldn't mind her being in a live-in relationship before marriage and adds that her dream man should be like her dad."I believe in a love marriage and am looking for a guy who would have some qualities of my father," said Esha, who will be seen next with Shiney Ahuja in Hijack."I think every girl wants her life partner to have some qualities of her father and I also want the same. My father has been the closest man in my life till now and I'm familiar with his qualities and therefore want my man to be like him," said Esha.Although her parents are looking for a suitable match for her, the 25-year-old actress is not game for an arranged marriage."My mom is a modern kind of person and would not mind if I even go for a live-in relationship with someone. I think I would like to live with him for at least two years and then think of getting married."It's always better to know a person well before marriage than getting divorced later," she quipped.According to Esha, she and her mother share many interests. "Both of us like dancing and acting; therefore we share a lot of common things among us. Besides, she has been a constant support in my life."She said Hema is now trying to revive her banner H M Creations, which made Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dil Aashna Hai in 1992."My mom is very keen to revive her banner. She thinks this is the best time to start a project as the market has really grown during the past couple of years. Also, we believe in the saying 'make hay when the sun shines'."Though they have decided to make a film, the script has not yet been finalised. "We are going through various scripts, but nothing has been finalised yet."Esha debuted with Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe in 2002 and in the last six years featured in several films, but success has eluded her so far. She was a part of successful films like Dhoom, Yuva and No Entry, but all of them were multi-starrers.After doing glamorous roles in run-of-the-mill films, Esha now wants to do some meaningful cinema."Though I am happy with my sexy image, I want to do meaningful cinema. There is nothing wrong being sexy as most of the actresses feel proud if they are termed as 'sexy and hot'; so do I. But at the same time I want to do some films that also show my acting talent," she said. She is positive about Hijack and says it has tapped her acting potential in the right way."The role that I am playing in Hijack is what I have never tried before. For the first time I will not be romancing my hero, neither will I be seen running around trees, not even in a dream sequence," said Esha who plays an air hostess in the movie."My character is experienced and believes in herself and helps the protagonist, played by Shiney Ahuja, with all her experience in rescuing the passengers."Hijack, which also stars K K Raina and debutante Kaveri Jha in important roles, releases this Friday.

The cheers for Joe Mascarenhas, his character in Rock On, have barely subsided and already he's touting his next in The Last Lear which releases across India on September 12. After playing a rock star he now plays filmmaker in this critically acclaimed Rituporno Ghosh directed venture. "It is a very different kind of film and it's wonderful to know that such kind of films also co-exist. It's wonderful to work with actors like Mr Bachchan, Preity, Shefali. It is once in a lifetime that you get a chance to do film like this. I am glad that it came to me so soon," said Arjun Rampal. The Last Lear was first written and performed as a play by the legendary Utpal Dutt but in adapting Aajker Shahjehan from Benagali, Rituparno chose English as the language for the film."When we were making The Last Lear nobody thought that okay we are making a blockbuster or we are going to make it into a big commercial success. I think it was made out of a passion for the script, the writer or the filmmaker who was making it," said the actor. This is the third time Arjun has starred oppostie the Big B, they have earlier worked together in Ek Ajnabee and Aankhein but according to the actor you can't get too much of a good thing. "I think we share good chemistry onscreen simply because offscreen also we are very fond of each other. He is extremely affectionate towards me, which makes me extremely comfortable," said Arjun. Will this work as well with the audiences as Rock On? In keeping with the Shakesperean theme of the film they'll probably just say to be or not to be.

(NSI News Source Info) Thursday - September 4, 2008 Mumbai: After a break of 15 years, Farooq Sheikh returns to celluloid with Saas Bahu Aur Sensex, which would be releasing later this month. Farooq Sheikh, who plays a stock broker in the film, says he had loads of fun as he returned to face the camera for a feature film. "I am busy reading scripts and the main criteria for me before I give a go-ahead to a project is that it should instill enough confidence in me," said the legendary actor who has made his presence felt even with the current generation, courtesy his superhit chat show Jeena Issi Ka Naam Hai. Talking about the trend of sequels/remakes and how some of his own films have been revived by different filmmakers over last few years, Farooq Sheikh said: "Umrao Jaan has already been remade with Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan while I believe work is already on for the remake of Chashme Baddoor." "However, I know for sure that Raman Kumar is now planning a sequel to Saath Saath. Deepti Naval and I are already into a conversation. Raman is an old friend and we all may just return with the sequel." Since Saas Bahu Aur Sensex is primarily a light-hearted entertainer, is he also inclined to pick up similar genre of films from here on? "Not necessarily", says the man who has more than a dozen odd critically acclaimed films to his credit ever since he was seen in Garm Hawa (1974), "Any particular genre doesn't make a difference. As I said, the subject should be interesting enough regardless of whether it is a comedy or a drama."

(NSI News Source Info) September 4, 2008: Sagarika Ghatge was the highest goal-scorer in ‘Chak De India’ and in real life too, she seems to be the highest goal-scorer among all the other girls in her team. The gorgeous actress has been signed by Percept Picture Company for their film ‘Raftaar’ (working title) to be directed by noted ad film maker Shamin Desai. The film also has Neha Dhupia and Aditya Pancholi in pivotal roles and Sagarika has been paired against Bollywood’s serial kisser Emraan Hashmi. Shooting for the film is currently underway in Kuala Lumpur and the film is expected to release sometime early next year.

Inside sources say that for this role, Esha Deol was the first choice but she seemed to have asked for a high price. Sarita Patil, Head of feature films at Percept Picture Company, confirms the news saying,
“Yes we have signed Sagarika for Raftaar. She has replaced Esha Deol as we couldn’t agree on the price. After things didn’t work out with Esha, we had a couple of options in mind and our director Shamin had seen Sagarika’s work in Chak De India and felt she would fit the part. Sagarika’s is a full-fledged lead role opposite Emraan Hashmi.”

(NSI News Source Info) September 3, 2008: Action king of Bollywood, Akshay Kumar and Chinese action star Jackie Chan are all set to come togehter for the Indianised version of action movie Rush Hour.

Apparently, it was Jackie who made the first move to approach Akshay for working with him in his forthcoming flick . Jackie Chan was very impressed by Akki’s performance in Singh is Kinng and liked his song with American rapper Snoop Dogg. When Akshay got to know about Jackie’s likeness towards him, he got on to work and made a deal with Ashtavinayak to offer them a film together.
A source says, “It is not known who will direct the film, but the buzz is that it will be a known international filmmaker. The project is slated to begin when Chan is free. Unlike The Myth, which has a strong Chinese sense in the script, this movie will be on the lines of Rush Hour where two cultures come together. In the past, Akki has openly said that he’d love to work with Chan and this opportunity comes at the right time.”
What do you think people? Akshay and Jackie together would definitely raise the action scene in India to a great level.

The post-production work has been on schedule, no complaints. So why this sudden postponement? "Warner Bros, presenters of Saas Bahu Aur Sensex, had confirmed September 12 as the domestic release and September 19 as the international release. However, we felt that the pirated DVDs would ruin the international business if we kept different dates for domestic and international release. So, we decided to shift the domestic date by one week. That explains why Saas Bahu Aur Sensex is now arriving on September 19," director Shona Urvashi confirms.

Katrina: Bollywood's new queen?

Katrina: Bollywood's new queen?
(NSI News Source Info) Wednesday - September 3, 2008 New Delhi: British-born actress Katrina Kaif has delivered six back-to-back hits, bagged several brand endorsements and is now a highly sought after heroine - all the qualities needed to be crowned the reigning actress in Bollywood, say film critics."Katrina has immensely evolved as an actress. In Bollywood, actors are mostly known for the number of hits that they can deliver. Katrina has won in that respect hands down. She can undoubtedly be called a lucky mascot for her producers," said popular film critic Taran Adarsh. After wowing audiences in the recently released romantic comedy Singh is Kinng opposite Akshay Kumar, Katrina has successfully displaced top-rung actors, including Kareena Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra. Her success story started with Namastey London and continued with Apne, Partner, Welcome, Race and now Singh is Kinng."Last year was simply fantastic and, touchwood, this year is the same. I would like to thank god. I believe in enjoying doing the work I'm doing. It is also good to know that the hard work I have put in has shown result. I will continue to do so," Katrina said. The 24-year-old star ventured into Bollywood in 2003 and was instantly written off because of her strong British accent. But after five years of hard work and determination, she is one of the most sought after actresses in the Hindi film industry. Her next is Subhash Ghai's Yuvraaj, which is about the arrogance and overconfidence of contemporary youth. Set to release in October, critics are confident that Katrina has another hit on the anvil in Yuvraaj.Anupama Chopra, Consulting Editor, films, NDTV says there are high expectations from Katrina's performance in the movie."Katrina has had a fortunate choice of films" even though she "had a rather unfortunate start with Boom," says Anupama."She is a stunning looking actress and so far she is doing well with her glam doll image. We did see glimpses of an actor in her performance-oriented roles such as in Namastey London," she further says.Katrina is one of eight siblings, all girls. Her mother is British and her father is from Jammu and Kashmir who has since acquired British citizenship. The actress spent her formative years in Hawaii but later moved to London. She started modelling accidentally when she was in Hawaii at the age of 14. Thereafter she continued modelling in London till she moved to Mumbai in quest of a career in the world's largest film industry. She has also moved on to bigger banners and has teamed up with John Abraham and Neil Mukesh for a Yash Raj Films' project. Apart from that, she will be seen in Rajkumar Santoshi's next film, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, with Ranbir Kapoor.Besides spinning gold at the box office, Katrina also has an assorted line-up of brand endorsements. These include Nakshatra diamond jewellery and Veet hair removal cream among others. The actress created waves when she replaced Aishwarya Rai as the brand ambassador of Nakshatra last month, besides bagging the crown of being the most downloaded Indian actress in cyber space."Katrina is the perfect representation of the young, trendy and fashionable woman that Nakshatra targets. We feel that Katrina lends a refreshing look to the brand. We are excited about having her on board as the new face for Nakshatra," said Mehul Choksi, chairman, Gitanjali Group and Nakshatra.Though the actress has acquired a star status in a short span, critics feel that she needs to work on more performance-based roles."Katrina needs to evolve and emerge out of her glamorous image to do meatier roles like the ones Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta were doing two to three years ago," says Anupama.

Rimi Sen desparate for big banners

Rimi Sen desparate for big banners
(NSI News Source Info) Wednesday - September 3, 2008 Mumbai: Bollywood actress Rimi Sen says she is tired of doing comedies and wants to diversify now, but the big banners don't give her a chance to showcase her talent and offer only inconsequential roles in their movies."That's all I get offered. Or some thrillers that are as thrilling as a visit to the dentist. I'm rather tired of doing comedies," said Rimi, who was recently seen in De Taali"."Even my forthcoming films Sankat City, Horn OK Please and Shaagird feature me in the comic vein. Incidentally I've a very small role in Shaagird," she said.Rimi wants to work in prestigious production houses with big-name heroes."But in such set-ups I'm getting utterly inconsequential roles. So I'd rather work with promising relatively small but talented directors like E Niwas, Sriram Raghavan or the guy who directed Aamir (Rajkumar Gupta). He has been praised so much," she said. The actress had a brief role in Dhoom 2 opposite Abhishek Bachchan."Yes, that was a special appearance for the sake of continuity from the first part to the sequel. Please don't ask me why I wasn't billed as a guest appearance. I've no clue how big banners work," said Rimi, who was seen in Dhoom as well.Speaking of her highly unorthodox role as the gold-digging innocent-faced woman in De Taali, Rimi said: "E Niwas was very clear about how he wanted me to play the character. He told me to stop being Rimi Sen and become Kartika as long as the film was being shot. I took it from there.""Although I played the seductive women, I was determined not to make her conspicuously stylised. That would've looked like I was fishing to do some scene-stealing."Though she featured as Abhishek's suspicious wife in Dhoom and its sequel, not much is known about Rimi."That's because I'm from Kolkata and I've practically no friends in the film industry in Mumbai.""I don't attend parties or filmy events. I'd feel very foolish and fake if I've to go and socialise with those very people with whom I share a cordial working relationship on the sets."Rimi believes friendships aren't possible in the entertainment industry."Then why pretend? Equations change here according to opportunity. I'd rather do my work and come home."But she did bond rather well with Riteish Deshmukh during De Taali."He's a sweetheart. I can say he's one friend that I've made in the three years that I've been in the industry," said Rimi whose first feature film was Ravi Chopra's Baghban."I did that just for a lark. Earlier, I had done a cola ad with Aamir Khan. That's how I got noticed."

Rani is not a Yash Raj heroine

Rani is not a Yash Raj heroine
(NSI News Source Info) Wednesday - September 3, 2008 Mumbai: Rani Mukerji is upset about being branded as a resident Yash Raj Films heroine despite having done a large number of films with the banner."What exactly do people mean by this? Agreed Rani has done comparatively more films with the Yash Raj banner. But that's because any heroine in Bollywood would be foolish to turn down an author-backed heroine-centric part like Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. And so what if the film didn't work? She's very proud of the film and rates it among her best films," a source close to the actress said.Rani has recently featured in three Yash Raj Films' productions - Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Ta Ra Rum Pum. Earlier, she has done films like Bunty Aur Babli, Veer-Zaara and Hum Tum for the banner. The source added: "In fact, Rani makes it a point to remind people that lately she did Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Ravi Chopra's Baabul and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya. None of these is a Yash Raj film."And if rumours are to be believed, Rani is on the verge of signing a couple of films outside the Yash Raj banner."One, of course, is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's historical Bajirao Mastani, which is far from shelved. Sanjay plans to make the film in the near future. And while the rest of the cast may change, Rani as Bajirao's wife remains in place. There are other films that Rani is seriously considering," the source said."Some time ago Rani said no to Mira Nair's 'Namesake' for emotional reasons. The excuse was dates. But Rani had her own reasons for foregoing a role that has changed Tabu's career internationally."Today, Rani is in a space where she realises being hard-headed and business-like is what Bollywood is all about. She certainly doesn't want to be branded a Yash Raj heroine."Rumours are rife that Rani acts like a hostess at Yash Raj Studios, but the allegation is strongly denied by people close to the organisation."This is all in people's minds. Rani is at home in every production house. Have you seen her with Karan Johar or Sanjay Bhansali? She's totally relaxed in their homes, has long chats with their moms and even goes into their kitchen at will," said the source. At the moment, Rani is busy preparing for her cricket film, which is being directed by Anurag Singh for the Yash Raj banner."It's being said she's agreed to work with a new director because of the banner. But Rani has worked with Kunal Kohli and Shaad Ali. Even Karan Johar was a debutant when Rani did Kuch Kuch Hota Hai."
