Freida Pinto On The Cover Of Vogue India

Freida Pinto On The Cover Of Vogue India
(NSI News Source Info) February 27, 2009: Freida Pinto, star of Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire, has made it onto the cover of Vogue India.
The actress began her career as a model but has never graced the cover of the fashion magazine before.
Posing in a metallic mini-dress by Louis Vuitton, Pinto is described as "the new style sensation".
When the Vogue writer asked the photoshoot stylist, Tiina Laakkonen, who Pinto was not dressed exclusively in Indian fashion, Pinto grabbed a pencil and scribbled: "Because she's international now!"
Pinto was signed by a leading model agency aged 21, after leaving university. She said recently that she took the job as a route into acting: "Honestly, I remember harbouring dreams of being an actor since I was five years old. For someone like me with no godfather in the film industry, it was easier to break into modelling. I did use modelling as a means to get into the film world. I enjoyed modelling. It taught me a lot in terms of being confident and definitely helped me prepare for what was to come next.
The 24-year-old has just landed her first post-Slumdog role, cast in Woody Allen's latest film. She will star in the as-yet-untitled project opposite Sir Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts and Josh Brolin. It will hit cinemas in 2010.
She is rumoured to be dating her Slumdog Millionaire co-star, 18-year-old Dev Patel.

Aamir Khan Shuts Up Anil Kapoor!

Aamir Khan Shuts Up Anil Kapoor!
(NSI News Source Info) January 30, 2009: At the NDTV Indian Achievers awards show in New Delhi recently, Anil Kapoor quipped that he was glad that SRK said no to Slumdog Millionaire. "Thanks to Shah Rukh's rejection, I got the role," he said.
He then told Aamir Khan, who bagged the Indian Entertainer of the Year, that he too, should reject some roles, which will then come his way. To which, Aamir retorted, "I barely get to do one film in a year, so there is no question of saying no!" That made the Slumdog quizmaster shut up.
Well! Anil, we hope you don’t repeat this humour-gone-awry kind of statements again since that’s not what is expected of a star like you.

Freida Pinto On Cloud Nine Due To "Slumdog Millionaire"

Freida Pinto On Cloud Nine Due To "Slumdog Millionaire"
(NSI News Source Info) January 24, 2009: Freida Pinto is the star of the moment, with everybody noticing her for being a part of Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominated Slumdog Millionaire. Ask her about her dream debut and she says, “I need to treasure these moments for the rest of my life. For someone who’s never acted before, this break was a blessing. Working for Danny Boyle was like attending the best acting school. When we started working, he told me, ‘Life isn’t always the same. Brace yourself for the world!’ The attention does get overwhelming at times and I’m still getting used to it. I’m a shy, reserved girl. Even when today someone compliments me, I get very embarrassed.”
Ask her if the world has changed for her after Slumdog and she says, “Not at all. I’m still the same, sensitive and simple girl who always dreamed about being an actress. The only thing that’s changed is that the girl walking around in jeans and tees has now taken to wearing designer dresses. Being in the public eye is unnerving at times but I think it’s a small price everyone pays for fame. But I keep telling myself all the time — I’m an actor, not a star.”

(NSI news Source Info) Los Angeles - January 12, 2009: Mumbai-based drama 'Slumdog Millionaire' has won four Golden Globes including best original score motion picture for A.R. Rahman. The cast of Slumdog Millionaire as they won the Best Motion Picture Drama award at the Golden Globes.
'Slumdog Millionaire' also won Golden Globes for best motion picture-drama, best director motion picture award for Danny Boyle and best screenplay motion picture for Simon Beaufoy.
A drama about Israel's 1982 invasion of Lebanon was named best foreign movie and Australian Heath Ledger earned a posthumous award as best supporting actor.
Ledger's prize for his role as The Joker in the Batman drama 'The Dark Knight' came almost a year after he died from an accidental drug overdose in New York last January. Team Slumdog is primarily Indian with A.R Rahman who won the Best Original Score award, Freida Pinto who plays Latika, Anil Kapoor who plays the host of the gameshow and Dev Patel who plays Jamal.
The award for Ledger had been widely expected and cements his status as the hot favourite to win the the equivalent prize at the Oscars Feb 22. He would become only the second ever person to win a posthumous Oscar.
'All of us who worked with Heath on `The Dark Knight' accept with an awful mixture of sadness but incredible pride,' said the film's director Chris Nolan. 'After Heath passed, you saw a hole ripped in the future of cinema.' For the first time in history, the dominating flavour at the Golden Globes was Indian. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was invited specially to present the film Slumdog Millionaire. This made him the first Indian to ever present at the Golden Globes.
The acclaimed animated romance 'WALL-E' was named best animated film, while little-known Sally Hawkins won the prize for best-actress prize in a musical or comedy for her role as a perky teacher in 'Happy-Go-Lucky'.
Also among the early winners were Kate Winslet, who won a best supporting actress prize for her role as a former Nazi in 'The Reader'. Bruce Springsteen won the award for best movie song for his music in 'The Wrestler'.
The success of 'Slumdog ...', which has received numerous critical awards, was all the more potent since it had originally struggled to find a distributor in the US. 'We really weren't expecting to be here in America at all at one time, so it's just amazing to be here,' said screenwriter Simon Beaufoy.
The Golden Globes, sometimes called Hollywood's biggest party, marked a stark contrast to last year's drab affair when a picket threat from the striking screenwriters union reduced the usually lavish affair to a functional press announcement.
From lifetime achievement award winner Steven Spielberg to Jennifer Lopez who opened the show in a shimmering gold dress, the Beverley Hills Hilton was filled with a roster of the biggest names in the movie and television world.
Coming into the show the leading nominations were Brad Pitt's 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button', about a man born old who grows young and 'Frost/Nixon', about a series of revealing television interviews of the notorious US president, both of which were nominated for best drama. 'Doubt', starring Meryl Streep in a searing tale about the sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church, also claimed five nods.
Other best drama nominees were 'The Reader', a WWII-based drama about a romance between a young law student and a female SS guard, and 'Revolutionary Road' starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in a drama about the challenges facing 1950's suburbanites.
