Sonia Gandhi on silver screen
(NSI News Source Info) November 7, 2008 - Mumbai: The country's most powerful bahu's story will soon be on the sliver screen in a film called Sonia. The film directed by Kumar Kiran will look at Sonia Gandhi's life from 1964 to 2004 when she decided not to accept the position of the Prime Minister. Kumar Kiran has not sought the Congress President's permission. He says he trusts she will not have any issues with his project. "It is a creative human portrayal from an ordinary or small town Italian girl to leading the world's largest democracy, then giving up the claim," said Kumar Kiran, director. When the Censor board pointed him in the direction of 10 Janpath to seek a no objection certificate from madam, Kumar moved the Bombay High Court. The Court has asked the censor to pass the film without the certificate. "We didn't seek a written approval as I said we didn't want to. Even when the censor said we didn't seek it because we have a right to make a sincere, authentic movie without defaming her," said the director. The film will test rather turbulent waters as it goes into Sanjay Gandhi's accidental death, Indira Gandhi's attempts at bringing her son Rajiv into politics, her assassination, Rajiv' riding the sympathy wave to become Prime Minister, the Bofors controversy, his assassination and Sonia's coming centre stage.
